Fifty award winners will be selected on the basis of Dear Mr. Hambel: I concur completely with your editorial, \A Few Words of Praise\ (March 14, 1984 issue), in addition, I have the opportunity as a home- maker to observe that the East Rockaway men of the Department of Public Works never throw the garbage cans after they have been emptied. This is much appreciated espe- cially because of the infe- rior quality of the metal cans today (it takes little to cause dents, etc.) A small portion of our property is in East Rock- away; therefore, we have collection/leaf service/- snow removal from East Rockaway and Lyn- brook. Sincerely, Mrs. Norma Caltieri Dear Mr. Hambel, As a mother of two children in Rock Rivalry, and a former participant in Rock Rivalry, I feel the community should know that the true spirit of Rock Rivalry lives on. Although neither of my children are in the Junior class, I think it was clear in everyone's mind the place their spectacular entrance was bound to receive. Congratulations Juniors on a job well done. What moved me the most, though, was what 1 heard about the Monday morning following Rock Rivalry. The Junior class, cup in hand, arrived at school chanting and enjoying their well deserved victory t o find a gigantic sign made by the Senior class that read: \Congratulations Juniors - We Love You - The Seniors.\ As I previously stated, the \TRUE\ spirit of Rock Rivalry lives on. Seniors, as your prin- cipal, Mr. Parry, was overheard saying, \YOU ARE TRULY A CLASS WITH CLASS.\ Sincerely, H.W. academic performance, involvement in extracurricular activities and need for financial aid ... * * * LITTLE RED RIDING HOOD ... a new musical by Bar- bara Schapp, will play on Saturdays and Sundays, April 7, 8, 14, 15, 21, 28, 29 at 1 pm and 3:30 pm plus April 18, 19, 23 and 24, at the Theatre Workshop, 317 Merrick Road, Lyn- brook. If you remember, the middle of Febru- ary could be classified only as gorgeous. There was little rain, moderate temperatures that ranged around 50 degrees, and prospects were good for an early spring this year. I eagerly anticipated those balmy days of 60 degrees that I knew were right around the corner. My bubble was quickly burst around the first of March. Since then I swear someone upstairs has it in for me, because the weather has been awful. So here 1 am, almost a full week after the much-heralded arrival of spring, only now able to declare with some degree of finalty that \Spring is Here !\ You see it here first, folks, and although I'm going out on a limb, I'm assured by John Coleman on CBS-TV that such is the case. Having spent almost five years in Washing- ton, DC, I have become quite used to enjoying an early spring. Although the weather during the rest of the year leaves much to be desired, (remember, Washington must have been in Dante's mind when he described the seventh circle), Washington is blessed with beautiful springs. The latter portion of March and early April are the only worthwhile times to be in Washington, in my opinion (and that's a great concession on my part), and I guess that for my first spring back in New York I expected more than the drizzle and snow that we were forced to bear. But that's all behind us now. I see the cro- cuses are in bloom in my front yard, and I can now roll the windows of my car down when driving between school and work. I must be an extraordinarily happy person, because these little things really do mean a lot to me. The weather brightens my entire outlook for the day. So I'm happy that the Century Federal Savings Bank's digital thermometer reads in the fifties everytime I pass it, for I know that when I feel this optimistic, it's for a reason. Shortly comes baseball, the end of school, barbeques, vacation... Ah, Spring. What took you so long? ART AUCTION ... The LI Chapter of the American Busi- ness Women's Association will present an art auction at Camp DeBaun, 465 Atlantic Avenue, Oceanside on Sunday, April I. There will be a preview with a wine and cheese party at 1:30 pm, followed by the auction at 2:30 p.m. A donation of $2 will get you a chance to win a free work of art. All proceeds go to the association's Scholarship Fund Drive ... Eagle Court of Honor On Sunday, March 25th, St. Raymond's Boy Scout Troop #332 held its annual Eagle Court of Honor and Communion Breakfast. At this time, we added these names to our Eagle Roster: Sean Mc Hugh, David Glen- ister, and Daniel Rachek. With the addition of the.se names our Troop now has 47 Eagle Scouts. We con- gratulate these young men and theii' families. At this time also, manvof our other Scouts advanced in rank and are well on their way to attaining Scouting's highest award - Eagle Scout. We thank all of those dedi- cated individuals who have helped all our young men along Scouting's way. We also thank all of the faithful officials who have sup- ported our Troop through the years. Many of them were in attendance at our Breakfast. SANDY SULLIVAN HANK BIALICK - PUBLISHER John Hambel - Editor Kelley Burke - Assistant Editor Toni Santillo • Controller Charlotte Safirstein • Ass't.
