Eligible widows and dependent children of deceased veterans are entitled to a wide array of benefits, according to D. Dunne, State Veteran Counselor, New York State Division of Veterans' Affairs. He emphasizes that none of the benefits are granted automatically - all must be applied for, and failure to seek professional advice and guidane can deprive the sur- vivors of veterans of readily available financial assistance. In summary form, the major benefits are: - PENSION payable to surviving spouses and dependent children with limited financial resources. - DEPENDENCY AND INDEMNITY COMPEN- SATION payable to widows and dependent children of veterans who die from a dis- ease or injury incurred or aggravated in line of duty. There is no financial means test for this benefit. - EDUCATIONAL ASSIS- TANCE is payable to sur- viving widows and depen- dent children who are entitled to Dependency and Indemnity Compensation. - GI LOANS t o purchase a home may be obtained by widows who are entitled to Dependency and Indemnity Compensation. Counseldor Dunne emphasizes that all claims for the above mentioned benefits must be resolved on an individual basis by determining if claimants meet estblished criteria. Veterans eligible for pen- sion and confined to nurs5ig homes or permanently housebound due to physical disabilities should investi- gate their entitlement to additional financial assist- ance. This advice comes from Dennis Dunne, State Veteran Counselor, New York Slate Division of Vete- rans' Affairs. If the veteran is not now receiving a nonservice- connected pension and wants to be considered for Aid and Attendance Congregation Etz Chaim an allowance he must file a claim for pension, and if approved he would then receive the Aid and Attend- ance benefit. A veteran pensioner deemed eligible for supple- mentry financial assistance may receive: HOUSEBOUND - an additional maximum monthly benefit of $102.00 AID AND ATTEND- ANCE - an additional max- imum monthly benefit of $275.00 It should be remembered that both the aforemen- tioned benefits are contin- gent upon the veteran being eligible for nonservice- connected pension. Pension is payable to wartime vete- rans with limited income who are totally and perman- ently disabled from reasons not traceable to service. Detailed information on these and all veterans' bene- fits together with profes- sional help in filing claims may be obtained at the local office of the New York State Division of Veterans' Affairs located at 320 Old,;: Country Road, Gardenji' City, N.Y. 11530. ; LEGAL NOTICE LEGAL NOTICE LEGAL NOTICE INCORPORATED VILLAGE OF EAST ROCKAWAY PUBLIC NOTICE NOTICE IS HEREBY GIVEN that in pursuance of the provisions of the Real Property Tax Law of the State of New York, being Chapter 95B of the laws of 1958 of the State of New York, as amended, and a resolution of the Board of Trustees of the Incorporated Village of East Rockaway, Nassau County, New York duly passed at a Special Meeting of such Board held on February 1,1984,1, the undersigned.
