King, who is a candidate for Grand Mar- shal of this year's St. Patrick's Day parade, stated today that his election as Grand Marshal would be \a dramatic and final repudia- tion of Senator Daniel Patrick Moynihan and former Governor Hugh Carey by the Irish-American community.\ \For too long,\ King charged, \Moynihan and Carey portrayed themselves as Irish American spokes- men on the tragic issue of Northern Ireland when in fact they were nothing but apologists for the British foreign office. .Over the. years, Moynihan and Carey have not only turned their backs on the oppressed peo- ple of Northern Ireland but have actively joined in the chorus of British propa- ganda to oppose those brave men and women who carry on the armed struggle against the British occupa- tion forces in Northern Ireland.\ King stated that \the elec- tion of Michael Flannery as Grand Marshal in 1983 was such a rejection of Moyni- han and Carey that neither of them had the courage to march in the Parade. Indeed, with Moynihan and This Week At Temple Emanu-EI Temple Emanu-El of Lynbrook invites you to join us for Shabbat services on Friday evening, February 17th, at 8:30. Rabbi Stuart Geller will conduct the ser- vice. Cantor Howard Tushman will chant the liturgy and he will be accompanied by the Volun- teer Choir. Rabbi Geller will speak on \Human Rights and the Origins of Reform Judaism\. Services will continue on Saturday morning at 11:00. The afternoon Torah Study Group will meet following the services at 12:45 P.M. On Sunday. Februarv 19th, there will be a Sister- hood/Men's Club Breakfast at 10:00 A.M. Featured will be a videotape on the media's distorted reporting of Israel's military actions in Lebanon. All members are invited to attend. Carey out of the Parade, more people participated in the Parade than ever before. It is vital, therefore, that in 1984 the Irish-American community send the unmis- takeably clear message that Moynihan and Carey are still not welcome in our Parade. My election as Grand Marshal will guaran- tee that this discredited duo will not return to the Parade because my candidacy is based on total opposition to their pro-British policies. Indeed, I have been specifi- cally endorsed for Grand Ma.rshal by Michael Flannery and the family of hunger-striker Bobby Sands. Quite frankly, I am . the one candidate for Grand Marshal who is diametri- cally opposed to Moynihan and Carey and the pro- British, hypocritical views which they espouse. It is far better for all concerned that Moynihan and Carey spend St. Patrick's Day exchang- ing toasts with their friends at the British Embassy rather than bringing disho- nor upon Irish-Americans by marching up 5th Avenue.\ The election for Grand Marshal was held at the Hal- loran House in Manhattan on February 14th. A Happy Saint Valen-* tine's Day and Saint Patrick's Day to all. MATTHEW CONNOLLY Chairman POETRY CAFE.
