1984 Viewed As Rosy For Long Islanders: Mc Grath a. I oc ui > oc Ui s o ^ O 0 c 00 z > -i > < 1 ^ u o oc As 1983 draws to a close I am happy to report that economic conditions in the Fifth Congressional District have improved significantly over the past 12 months, and according to a 1984 first quarter report by Chemical Bank, the local economy next year should be even better. In its newsletter entitled: \Long Island Economic Report,\ Chemical Bank was very bullish about the bi-county region. It stated that Long Island, which out- performed the rest of the nation in the 1983 economic recoverv. will continue to lead in 1984 with an even higher rate of growth. Chemical, the largest bank- ing institution on Long Island with more than 90 branches and Suffolk in 1984 to 5.9% - one of the lowest figures in years and far below the projected national average of 8.2%. ^ What's more, the bank report noted \the bi-county area should continue to create jobs in all sectors and widen and strengthen its economic base.\ While it forecast good news for workers, the report also had- encouraging words for con- sumers. The inflation rate for 1984, it said, \should come it at about 4.8% des- pite possible higher food prices.\ A decline of 2.5% in the prime interest rate \could be in the ballpark for 1984,\ the banking report forecast. With such a drop, prospec- tive home and apartment buyers could see a decline in long term mortgage rates. County law prohibits heaving excess snow from walks or driveways onto the right-of-way. Doing so is a misdemeanor with a fine and/or a jail term involved. \It might seem the thing to do when trying to clear a path in front of your house or driveway, but it is illegal,\ Hasl said. \There are dangers involved in such practice. That shovelful of snow could freeze and become a danger to a motor- ist. Or it might melt, freeze and become an ice slick,, dangerous for cars and pedestrians.\ Hasl agrees that it is a temptation to shovel snow onto the plowed road bed, but urges property owners to resist. ur <fA m 'fp, >RE-DINNER 'HOUR SPECIALS EVERYDAY: 4.7PM ' ki'/TH iOMf ^ SLICE D SIRLOIN STEAK BROILED SOL E CHICKE N CORDON BLEU STUFFE D FLOUNDE R J3 B Q RIBS BROILED SCROD VEAL TIDBITS on Garlic Bread l BREAST OF CHICKEN Parmigiana 57.50 'CHOPPED SIRLOIN STEAK 'CHICKEN TIDBITS FETTUCCINE A LA CRIQUET QUICHE OF THE DAY LINQUINI w/Clam Sauce ROAST PORK On Garlic Bread I^USJ BE SEATEI Bi?
