<N II E.R. Youth Soccer tD oo O N By Lesly Bcldner Last weekend we had almost perfect weather for the final games of the season. The Egles really rolled, unleashing an awesome offen- sive barrage, as they beat Oceanside 7-0 on Saturday and demolished Franklin Square 11-0 on Sunday to end their season on a high note. Matt Smolinsky and Adam Shestack contributed 3 goals each to the 18 goal total. Gerry Grant, Chris Carrano, Eric Kamen, and Jordan Goodman each had two scores, and Adam Cooper, Brian Lehrer, Mike Clinton, and Philip Ehrlich added one each. The Hawks finally had good attendance but not enough firepower, as they lost 6-1 to first place Valley Stream. Diana Ribaudo had East Rockaway's goal, and Jason Krivoshey, Adam Yaker, and Andrew Kobell all had ^ good games. Sunday the Rowdies played a rather lackluster game ^ and lost 3-0 to the Albertson Bullets, despite the strong play of Marc f Jacobsen, Gary Ostroff and Mike Smohnsky. ^ In the upper Intramurals, the Rockies beat the Royals 3-0 to ^ clinch the title. Jimmy Dunphy had the \hat trick\ (his second in two weeks), Tom O'Neill had a great game on offense, and Jennifer § Regan played well at midfield. The Royals got a good defensive game from Naomi Gelfand. In the second game, the Bull Dogs top- ped the Kings 6-1. Jeff Brodsky scored the \hat trick\ and Adarn Levine, Brad Ackerman, and Bryan Lurie all notched single goals. The entire team played good soccer, especially Brian Cassaza, Brett Weinstein, and Goalie Kevin Gotlieb. Robby Weiss scored for the K Kings. The Junior Intramurals saw the Jaguars beat the Pumas 3-1. Jaguar goals were scored by Anthony Lombardo (2) and David Estrin. Chris Isaacs had a good effort and Joe Vesce played a fine game in goal. For the Pumas, Andy Knobloch scored and David Yaker and Marc Honig also had very strong games. In the second game, the Tigers tied the Cheetahs 1-1. The Tiger goal was by Julio Centeno, Scott Lefcourt had a good game, and the whole team played extremely well. The Cheetah score came on a penalty kick by Robert Grella. Mike Davidson and Walter Rivero played sterling soccer, Charles Carre looked good on defense, and Marion Vetter and Lori McCurdy also had fine efforts. Finally, the Junior Intra- mural Champion Wildcats really rolled, 6-0, over the Jets who did not play their usual strong game. Michael Tanton scored \5\ goals and Eric Blinderman added one for the winners. Karen Ranzer played well for the Jets, and Lauren Appel made some nice saves as she played goal for the first time. The Clinic had their annual kids vs. coaches game and a good time was had by all. If you haven't registered, get it into me immediately - there may not be room for those who wait. See you all at awards night on Tuesday night at 7 :30 p.m. at Marion Street School. The ears of corn we eat today were, in their wild form hundreds of years ago, only an Inch or so long. The team of P. Halatas, W. Masch and J. Lachina needed to take 5 out of 11 points to win first place. They won their first game, but lost the next two thanks to a red^ot bowler, April Colon. She bowled a 145 second game and a 184 third game and a 446 series. The second place team of B. Decker, D. Belli and J. Gianni had to take all 11 to get into first and they did. After 36 weeks of bowling one point separated the first and second place teams. The team of M. Pizzo, P. Pizzo and A. Caragiulo finished third, 5 points out of first. Win- ning individual trophies were J. Gianni for high average (142), E. Boremski for high series (548) and high game (224). April Colon picked up the ladies trophies for high average (99), high series (446) and high game (184). Next year bowling will again be at RVC Lanes on Friday afternoons. We will start around the end of September. The spring bsaseball season is winding up and I think it was a great success. Everyone seemed to enjoy the experience including the coaches. Summer travel baseball and softball are next. On Friday, June 24th, 8 p.m. at Newbridge Road Park, the Police Officers of the Nassau County PBC will play a softball game against the New York Arrows Soccer team. All proceeds are to benefit a young boy from Bellmore who was active in the PBC until he had to undergo several brain operations for a tumor. He is doing better now but his family is in a financial bmd and he has one more oper- tion to go. Tickets are $2 each - call me at 593-6576 to get yours. Once again I would like to express the gratitude of the E. R. PBC for the generous gift given to us by the E. R. Kiwanis. Please support this fine organization by joining their ranks and helping your com- munity or by attending their fund raisers for other worthy causes. There are still a few openings at Camp PBC in Riverhead. The price is right and some financial assistance is favailable. For information on any PBC program or camp, call me at 593-6576.
