The Eagles were \rained out\ at Franklin Square on what turned out to be a very nice Saturday afternoon, and our other teams lost games they Could have won. The Hawks, playing with only 8 men apinst 11, were tied with Oceanside with only 7 minutes remaining in the game but finally fell 3-1, as Oceanside's ^ yeater numbers prevailed. Chris Marcus scored for the Hawks, Goalie Michael Smith made some great saves, and Mike Porto, Diana Ribaudo, Leo Guarino, Andrew Kobell, Stuart Lippman, and Jason Krivoshey all played the game of their lives. The Rowdies traveled to Herricks High School Monday night for a makeup game against /ilbertson. Despite outplaying their opponents for most of the game, the Rowdies failed to take advantage of their opportunities and lost 2-1. Michael Grossman had East Rockaway's only goal. Matt Serynek and Gary Ostroff played well at midfield, and Marc Jacob- sen, Marcus Soares, and Michael Cinque were super on defense. Sunday found the Rowdies leading Levittown 2-0, only to lose 3-2 as they tired late in the game. Levittown got the winning tally on a free kick with one minute to go. Bruce Ostroff and Mike Grossman notched the Rowdies' scores, and Adam Stavola had a fine game in goal. In the older Intramurals, the Royals played a great game as they upset the Bull Dogs 3-1. Chris Romaine had 2 goals for the winners, both on assists from Ricki Friedman. Maria Tetro had another on a penalty kick, and the Royals defense was led by Tom Finian, Robert Leone, and Adam Gewanter. For the Bull Dogs, Jeff Ivler scored, also on a penalty kick, and Kris Gottlieb had a good game at mid- field. The second game saw the Rockies top the Kings 5-1. Jim Dunphy had the \hat trick\ and Peter Rooney added two more. Brendon McGuinness had a good all around game for the victors. Harlon Sloves scored for the Kings, and Robby Weiss, Jena Russo, and Dominick Maffei also had fine efforts. The younger Intramurals featured a super game between the Jets and the Pumas whichended in a 2-2 tie. Andy Ward and Andy Knobloch had the Puma goals, Danny Fox played strong defense, and the whole team had a good game. The Jets were led by Karen Ranzer and Andrew Cohn who scored the goals, and good play by Lauren Appel, Erika Kahn, and Farra Trompeter. The Wildcats beat the Tigers to cinch first place in the Junior Intramural Division. Jeanette Richetti and Mary Giannotti anchored the defense, and Jonathan Braid, Brian Levy, Michael Tanton and Eric Blinderman all scored. Julio Centeno had the Tiger goal, Mike Noble played well at midfield, and Ross Goodman and Seth Gusow did a good job in the goal. In the final contest, the Jaguars edged the Cheetahs 3-2. David Estrin scored on an assist from Matthew Brodsky. Anthony Lombardo had two goals - one on a penalty kick and another on a beautiful header off his own rebound. Brian Gannon and Joe Vesce shared the goaltending chores and played very well. For the Cheetahs, Robert Grella and Mike Davidson had a goal apiece, and Walter Rivero and Marion Vetter anchored the defense. In a week- night game, the Wildcats edged the Cheetahs 2-0 on goals by Eric Blinderman and Michael Tanton with strong offense help from Anthony Peritore and good defense by Elissa Tolle. This Saturday's schedule features the Rockies and Royals at 1:15 and the Kings vs. the Bull Dogs at 2:30. IKK I said last week that the Hoe Down was a lot of fun, and it was. It was also a financial success. Next Monday night the good men of the East Rockaway Kiwanis will donate a check in the amount of $1500 to the East Rockaway PBC. This donation represents the culmination of months and months of preparation, planning and good old-fashioned hard work by the E. R. Kiwanis Club. Everyone who has children participating in any of the programs owes a debt of gratitude to the Kiwanis. It can be repaid by supporting their fund raising efforts for other worthwhile causes in the future, or by join- ing the club and performing a service to your community. At this time I would like to thank the E. R. Kiwanis on behalf of the E. R. Police Boys Club for their generous gift. By the time you read this, make up schedules for rainouts will be out. In some cases double headers will be played with a starting time of 5:30. Check with your coaches for game tiimes, dates, and locations. The E. R. PBC will be sponsoring a girls basketball team in the Rockville Centre Recreation League this summer. Karl DeMasi and Karen Kelly will be coaching it. The E. R. PBC 2nd Annual Women's Softball League is up to six teams this year and the season will begin at the end of June. Bowling will end on June 10th. The top three spots are still up for grabs, and the competition is furious. There are individual trophies for the top three teams and trophies for high game, series and average. Next week I will print the final standings and the winners of these awards. Our annual baseball drawing was held at the -Hoe Down and the winners of Gift Certificates were G. Alden, Bounty Inn; D. Levonius, Ship's Inn. I would hke to thank the owners of those establishments for their generous gifts to our program and uige PBC families to patronize these local eateries, and mention you're from the PBC and appreciate their support. Remember there are still a few openings for Camp PBC. The price is reasonable and financial assistance is available for qualified appli- cants. For information about camp or any other activity, call me at 593-6576.
