DAR GIVES FLAG TO LIBRARY At the April 18th meeting of the Anne Cary Chapter of the National Society of the Daugh- ters of the American Revolution held at the East Rockaway Public Library, an American flag was donated to the Library and accepted by its director, Ellen Rockmuller. Mrs. Jere D, Gilmour of Baldwin, Regent of the Chap- ter, made the presentation, assisted by Mrs. Herbert Sc Eyre of East Rockaway, who served as chapter chairman of American History Months The director announced she would select a site to display it in conjunction with the 10th anniversary celebration of the Librarye The donation of our flag is supportive of DAR objectives of historic preservation and culti- vation of patriotic endeavor in the community. If our rulers and representatives, know- ing what a total disaster the next conflict will bring, iron out their disagreements by logic and reason for the good of all man- kind, urging anyone to join a veterans organization will be a thing of the past. If you want to know about war ask the ex- perts, the veterans. Sure, they re- member some bang-up and memorable times, but it was a case of here today, gone to- morrow, They crowded a life- time into short periods. They also remember how mothers, sweethearts and families took solace in remarks like '*They also serve who sit and wait;'* some are still waiting. We, of the Legion, would rather go out by attrition. We don* t need any new sources for new members. What am I talking about? Read the papers. Our local represen- tatives are pushing to get a Standing Committee for Veter- ans Affairs in our State Assembly, and the Congress of the U,S,' is trying to get rid of already established veterans committees in both houses, like a pair of old shoes used and kicked around and eventually discarded. We still represent a large part of the populaton and our lobbyists are the veterans organization, so join up and get active now. Our Country-Western Dance will take place this Friday even- ing, May 6th, starting at 9 p,m, It's a good deal. You may stil have time. It's really worth i try. Call Jim Dwyer, 593-5577 Our meeting April 12th was very short because we didn't want to take away from the im- portance of bestowing honors on the seven young men from Boy Scout Troop 332, who recently attained the rank of Eagle Scouts, We again would like to congratualte these young men and share some of the pride their families can't help but feel. Remember Memorial Day, May 30th, All faiths and all people will be welcome to one of the most beautiful temples on Long Island, the Hewlett- East Rockaway Jewish Centre, for an Interfaith Service at 8 a.m. honoring our comrades who lost their lives in the service of our country. Tickets for a chance to win a small fortune are available for our Reverse Drawing. See Bill Fuchs, John Watkins or Walter McCormack. The 200 Club winners drawn Sunday, May 1st, are: Peter Farina (1st), Barbara Callanan (2nd), J, M'artin (3rd), Ina & Jim Dwyer (4th), Ken Clark (5th), J.P. Kbstyrka(6th).
