PATENT TRADER, MT. KISCO, N.Y., THURSDAY, DECEMBER 13, 1956 Page 5 Candlelight Supper CHAPPAQUA — The Episcopal Church of St. Mary the Virgin •will hold its annual Candlelight Supper at 1 Friday night at the parish house. Donald Bryant will lead a family sing after supper. Baby sitting will be provided free at the parish house. Letters To The Editor: Review Praised As 'Constructive' To the Editor: I am mildly astonished to learn that one of your readers has ob jected to the review of the Chap- paqua Drama Group's \Bell Book and Candle.\ I don't think constructive criti cism needs any apology. Honest, objective, and unbiased criticism can help the growth of an organi zation that takes itself seriously, as the Drama Group does. When we present ourselves to the public and ask for money, we should expect to operate in a field of open criijcism, not only to learn how to improve, but also to prove we can look at oursaives objectively. To tell people they are marvelous helps no one. We are not children, and I think we are above taking adverse criticism personally. As far as the effect of this re view on future audiences is con i cerned, I would expect it to draw larger audiences rather than smaller ones in the future. If \Bell Eook and Candle\ was found dis appointing it IS implicit in the review that the Group is capable of better things I think a small town newspaper can do a great service in criticism, and I certainly don't understand why it should be expected to pre sent only favorable reports of an adult venture of this sort. This was a case where you published a reviewer's opinion; you did not slant the news. Your reviewer had a right to her opinion, and you had a right to print it. I fail to understand why either of us should be censured. J \NE BYRXE Cha'ipaquii More Letters On Page 12 THE TOWNSMAN, CHAPPAQUA SUN editions of the PATENT TRADER. 7\ Cnt SHOP EARQtf simmsMW!
