Carder won three matches, including the first two via technical falls. The Panthers scored 81 1/2 points to place fifth, beating Starpoint, the host Spartans and Niagara- Wheatfield. Fulton (Syracuse area) won the team trophy with 197 points. Spencerport (second), Clarence (third) and Royal- ton-Hartland (fourth) com pleted the eight-team field. CARDER WON HIS title bout, 9-3, defeating a wrestler from Fulton. The Raiders sent six to the finals, winning four weight classes. Kevin Hyman (2-1) also made the finals, taking run ner-up at 132 pounds. Hyman had one pin. Gary Beckwith at 91 lbs., Scott Nelson at 98 and Dave Geiger at 177 finished third. Nelson pinned three foes. Chad Nourse at 119 lbs., Tim Barnes at 126, Dave Miley at 167, and Matt Woolley a t heavyweight each won one out of three bouts. Don Clark at 138 and Steve Rhoads at 145 also competed for Pioneer. Lou Roselli, the 112-lb. champion of Royalton- Hartland, won the Most Valuable Wrestler award Fulton also won the JV and Overall Team trophies. Pioneer is off until the Warren PA tournament on Janua ry 2 and 3. On Januaiy 7, the Panthers resume their league slate at Williamsville East. 'Super*7” picks Rob Holland Rob Holland of Pioneer received nomination to WKBW-TV’s “Super 7” top high school athletes last week. Clip Smith announced last week’s “Super 7” list on Thursday night. Holland was named fourth. Rob was named Most Valu able Player at the Mc Donald’s Tip-Off Tournament in Springville the weekend before, as he led the Panthers to two one-point thriller vic tories. He also canned five field goals for ten points and stole key balls in the fourth quarter to lead Pioneer over Bishop Walsh of Olean, 60- 59. For the title, Pioneer beat host Springville, 39-38, as Holland scored 17 points. Holland is a senior and co captain for the Panthers. H o llan d suffers losses in tw o cliffh a n g e r s Holland opened its ECIC IV basketball schedule with two cliffhanger losses on Tuesday ana Friday. The Dutchmen are 0-2 in the league and 0-4 overall. Visiting Alden held off the Dutchmen, 55-53, last Tuesday. Holland battled back from a 38-23 halftime lead and 42-34 third quarter deficits, but the Dutchmen could only close in within one with 35 seconds left. The Bulldogs hit one foul shot and missed another front end of the one-on-one before absorbing the win. The Dutchmen were forced to foul to get the ball and missed a desperation shot with seven seconds left that would have tied the game, forcing over time. Scott Farrant scored 18 points and pulled away in 13 rebounds to lead Holland. Jim Wheaton tallied 12 points, and Doug Eigenbrod added on 10 points. Joey Spahn had six assists. Mike Barton led the Bulldogs with 26 points, in cluding 12 of 14 free throws. Joe Schmitt had 10 points, including the last free throw. ON FRIDAY, host North Collins edged Holland, 63-59. The Eagles led all the way, as the cold-shooting Dutchmen could onlv close within four at the end.. North Collins led 40-25 at the h alf and 52-45 after three periods, as Holland at tempted its comeback. The Eagles took advantage of early Holland fouls, receiving the one-on-one bonus early. The Eagles shot 50 percent from the field to a cold 36 percent for the Dutchmen, according to Coach Jim Hewitt. Holland hit seven of 19 field goal attempts in the fourth quarter and only 11 of 25 free throws for the game. Eigenbrod led Holland with 22 points, Wheaton _ scored 14, and Farrant tallied 13. Eigenbrod had 12 rebounds, and Jerry Pawlak pulled down nine to lead the inside defense. Spahn and Wheaton had four assists each. Jeff Aeschbacher scored 21, Jeff Roberts added on 13, and Jeff Fazzolari tallied 10 to lead the Eagles. PCS wrestlers at 3-0 in ECIC Pioneer improved its wres tling record to 3-0 in ECIC III-IV, as the Panthers bested visiting Springville, 44-23, last Friday on Parents’ Night. The Griffs gave Pioneer its closest match ever since resuming wrestling in 1982. The Panthers pulled away, from the middle weight clas- 80 s on. Chad Nourse at 119 lbs., Kevin Hyman at 132, Steve Rhoads a t 145, Shane Carder at 155, Dave Geiger^at 177 and Matt Woolley at heavy weight pinned their foes for Pioneer. • Tim Barnes a t 126 won via default, and Dave Miley at 167 drew to complete the Panther scoring.
