Rogers, deputy base commander at Charleston A#B;in South Carolina, anaj (graduate of Delevan Hlm^.School, retired after ififcij years of active servic ^S- the Air Force. Thirte^of those years were spent as navigator aooard Air Force One. Pioneer's football team won for the first time in its three-year history, posting a 14-8 win over Gowanda. The touchdowns came on a 95-yard Pat Dugan-to- Mike Blecha-to-Dan Devin double reverse on the opening kickoff, and a IS yard Jesse Curry-to-Dan Devin pass. Donald Coe was elected president and Norm Hogan was elected chief of the Memorial'^Volunteer Fire Company of Chaffee- Sardinia. Fire destroyed the interior of the Nelson Tinch home at Lime Lake. Linda Brunner of North Java and Larry Roll of Sandusky were married in August. Deaths: Alice Parker Davis, 81, of Arcade; Agnes Francis Smith, 72, of Farmersville Station; Bird King, 76, formerly of Eagle an d Yorkshire; _MeJyin_Sink, 36, formerly of Sandusky. 25 Years Ago November 1, 1956 Dr Arthur A. Schweit zer opened a dental office in Holland in the addition to the Bank of Holland building. Mr. and Mrs. Stephen Smith of Delevan cele brated their 51st wedding anniversary. Ralph Petersen was elected president of the Java-Strykersville Kiwan- IS Club. The soccer teams at Holland Central School ended a successful season. Coach Floyde Peckham's varsity team finished in second place in the Erie County League, and Coach Richard Rugg's junior varsity team finished in first place. Retnhardt's Furniture in Yorkshire was having a Grand Opening Sale. Harold Tucker, pastor of the Sandusky Baptist Church, was ordained into the Gospel Ministry. The paper endorsed Dwight Eisenhower for president, Richard Nixon for vice-president, and Jacob Javits for U.S. Senator. Births: a son, James Howard, to Mr. and Mrs. Howard Sheehe of York shire; a son, Charles Ernest, to Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Whiting of Arcade; a son, Paul Robert, to Mr and Mrs. Glen Phillippi of Freedom, a daughter, Karen Eliz abeth, to Mr and Mrs. Joseph Mesmer of East Holland; a daughter to Mr. and Mrs. Harlan Foote of Bliss. - Deaths: Grace Cudworth Jones, 57, of Beaver Laker Edward Fuller of Arcade. 35 Years Ago October 31, 1946 John and Rita Bailey of Port Leyden, New York bought the Arcade Coffee Shop, formerly the Reed Coffee Shop, from Harold Davis and Stanley Tarbox. The paper endorsed Governor Thomas E. Dewey and the rest of the Republican ticket in the coming election. Goals were scored by Leland Bray, Victor Nourse, and Frank Sawyer, and the defense was led by Captain Harvey Mason and Erwin Little. -= Fisher Bros, of Java Village was wiring St. Patrick's School at Java Center for electricity. Winning candidates fair Supervisor \in '-local township s were: Ross Brown in Holland, Nelson Wing in Eagle; E.T. Miller in Sardinia; A.E. Austin in Freedom; F. Earl West- over in Yorkshire; and Dr. Lynn W. Ham in Arcade. A daughter, Kaye, was born to Mr. and Mrs. Damon Welles of Arcade Andrew McCutcheon, formerly of Curriers and Arcade, died.
