Wow! What a fantastic Capruso, 30; Rebecca Kujawa, the parents who spent countless showing at the Regional Oireachtus held in Philadelphia over Thanksgiving weekend. Rince na Tiarna’s hard work brought home 6 First Place Trophies in: Mixed 8 Hand, Under 9; Mixed 4 Hand Under 11; Girls 8 Hand under 15; Primary Figure; Minor Figure and Senior Figure. Placing in the Top 5 fro their Solo Competitions were: Breanne Atzert, 4th; Christine Collins, 3rd; Kevin Zeznick, 3rd; Mallory Siwirski, 4th; Kevinah Dargan, 2nd; Ryan Brennan, 3rd; Emily Rutter, 5th and Joseph Wynes, 5th. One of the truly memorable events of the weekend was the Senior Figure. Despite techni cal glitches, this team pulled it together and danced “Celtic Knotwork” with grace and poise. Kudos Girls! The Annual Dinner Dance brought over 30 dancers and parents (all dressed to the nines) together to socialize, get their caricature done or dance the night away. Kevin Zeznick was surrounded by a bevy of beauties. Thanks to Walt Zeznick for his help and to all hours driving to practices and helping to make the event go smoothly. We are looking forward to our annual Christmas Party to be held Dec. 16 at the Buffalo Irish Center. Next on our calen dar (in between shows, of course) will be Pub Nite on Friday, January 11 at the Buffalo Irish Center. Our Pot’O Gold Raffle will be drawn that night so be sure to purchase your ticket before then. Who couldn’t use some extra after the holidays? Shine At the October 20th meet ing elections were held. The 2002 officers are: William Mahoney-President, Kevin J. O’Brien-Vice President, Margaret Fabinsky-Secretary, and Donna M. Shine-Treasurer. Kristie Phillips was appointed as Chairman of the Research Committee at the July meeting. The GAAA Library will continue to be open for genealogical research on the 2nd Saturday of each month from 10 AM to 2 PM for BIGS MEMBERS . The library is staffed by BIGS volunteers to help assist other members in using our resource materials. This must be restricted due to space availability in the small library and security issues. Non-members can call Ann Coffey 826-4233 for appoint ments on other days and times. Our 3rd Annual “Gathering of the Clans” will be held on Saturday, January 19th from 7 until 9 PM at the Buffalo Irish Center. Family genealogies will be displayed and OPEN TO THE PUBLIC. Members will help direct anyone to or where to obtain information for genealogical research. Admission is FREE and light refreshments will be available. A raffle will be held for a gin gerbread Irish cottage. Some new book purchases by BIGS for the GAAA Library are: 1) Emigrants From Ireland to America, 1735-1743, by Frances McDonnell: A tran scription of the report of the Irish House of Commons into enforced emigration to America, 2) Ireland: 1841/1851 Census Abstracts (Northern Ireland) by Josephine Masterson: a partial reconstruction of the 1841 and 1851 censuses based on the Old Aged Pension search sum maries, 3) Irish Passenger Lists, 1847-1871, by Brian Mitchell: Identifies 27,495 pas sengers by name, age, address, and name of ship, 4) A Guide to Irish Parish Registers, by Brian Mitchell: This book shows which Irish parish regis ters exist, their starting dates, and where they are found, 5) A Guide to Irish Churches and Graveyards by Brian Mitchell: This book identifies every church and burial ground in relation to a townland or street address within its civil parish and county between 1848- 1864, and 6) Irish Passenger Lists, 1803-1806 by Brian Mitchell: lists some 4, 500 pas sengers sailing for Ireland to America, the events of September 11th have brought on a strong sense of patriotism in America. So too, is our sense of family. In this holi day season, it becomes very important to tighten those fam ily ties that have been left for another day. Search out lost family branches with our help. Town O’ Tonawanda Irish American Club by Patricia Lynch By now we all are ready to ring in a new year with the hopes that it will bring peace, health and happiness to all near and dear to us. Holiday greetings from our officers and members to all the Irish Times readers. Backtracking just a bit, at our November meeting we installed our new officers. They are President, James Horrigan; Treasurer, Charles McGillicuddy; Secretary, Patricia Sinnott; Sgt. At Arms, Rosemary Law Schoenwald; Membership, Sheila Shea and Ways & Means, Marie Smith. Best of luck to all of you! We also collected non-perishable food for the less fortunate. Our children’s Christmas party was the usual success with music by Danny Bonner et al. and an appearance by Santa himself with gifts for all the children. On December 7th, the adults gathered at Morgan’s Restaurant for an enjoyable evening with music by “ Party Arty”, delicious food and excellent company. What more could you want. Our next meeting will be on Wednesday, January 24th. We have exciting plans for the year 2002.
