Shine Nov. 7, 2001 He donned a hat, black as the night And stepped upon the stage; Accompanied by Tommy O’Sullivan At slight, his junior age. The strap, secured around his arm Pipes lain across his lap; With Tommy’s hi-strung guitar, poised ‘Til he began to tap. The audience, spellbound and mute Absorbed the sounds they made; Such magic drifts, on air aloft Though soft, seems ne’er to fade. As fingers quivered o ’er the holes Palm pressing dron ing keys; His right elbow moved in and out The bellow, so to squeeze. And as he played his uil- lean pipes With accents to be made; He’d raise the chanter from his knee, New sounds pro duced cascade. Then Tommy’s voice, such gentle sound Sings syncopated songs; Demanding stretch, his guitar strings, Oh, how softly true love longs. For as I sat and watched these two Perform in front of me; It wasn’t just, before my eyes, The only thing I’d see. For 1 was taken back in time As I watched their talents flow; That each was taught by those before Traditions, they both know. New seems always brighter Yet, o ’er time, does not sustain; Like oF traditional music That will take you home again. So, as their time came to a close We sat in rich delight; My thanks to Paddy and Tommy For an enchanting, memorable night. Sunday, Decem b er 16 Sunday, January 20 Sunday, February 17 6:00 P.M.
