T )?e fever for lpijgrovement has struck our North Weschester vil lages; it is epidemic, contagious and, let us hope, chronic. One cause of it is the Prize offer of the Bedford-Newcastle Association to the school children of Katonah, Bedford Station, Mt . Klsc o and Chap- pnqua. At Katona h the scholars were ..in forme d of the plan on TueBday of last week and some twent y of the youngsters hav e already availed them selves of the chance to show, how neat they can be in the arrangement of theiir do6ryards. Upwards of SO entries in the competition wer e re ceived from Mt. Kisco (.where the plan met with grea t success last Sum-'' *aier) and at Bedford Station 30 child ren have decided to compete. The official offer is as follows Point s upon which prizes will be awarded 1.—Neatness of the entire premises. 2.—Care of walks and gutters. 3.—Carte of grass, flowers, shrub bery and trees. -*» 4.—Improvements; Sowing of grass seed, planting of flowers, etc. 5.—Percentage of improvement not ed. The prizes will be from a total sum of $26, and, will be given to those scholars of the school \vho#e home grounds are cared for, either by the scholars themse)ves, their parents, or by some membe r of the home. The time for the contest is from the first of June to September 30th. Joseph Barrett, of Katonah, who was stricken sud denly on Wednesday of this week with a hemorrhage of the stomafch. There wa? a hold up near Mount Kisco Mast Saturday, ov/t the robbers made a mistake and got -the wrong man. Mr. Lawrence , the architect on the ScribneY -job , was taken over from Mt Kisco b y C» r '. Johnson, an em ployee at Wilt Vall's stables. On their way they wer e stopped by seven men who took a gold watch and chain from Mr . Lawrence and a silver watch from Johnson. Mr Law rence had $100 in his pocket which the robbers overlooked.
