Mrs. Richard Kellogg and Mrs.War- ren Bittner were the hostesses for the evening. Mr. and Mrs. Ralph Lent of Cherry Street, returned home on Aug. 4 from a week's vaca tion trip through New England. Mr. and Mrs. Harry Brown and family of Meadow Park left over the weekend for Lake Bomaseen, Vt. where they will spend a two week vacation. Miss Maude Dann of Katonah Avenue and Miss Ella Stinson of Edgemont Road, left on Sat urday for a weeks vacation at Ocean Grove, N. J. Mr. Meyer is a former resident of Katonah, having lived on Cherry Street with his family. Mrs. Charles VanStreader of Bedford Road, returned home last week from Roanoke, Va., where she had been called the week before by the serious ill ness and subsequent death of her sisiter, Mrs. B. B. Brown. Miss Carol Hayes, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Donald Hayes of Croton Lake Road, was guest of honor on Thursday when a shower was held at the home of Mrs. Will Shugg of Lake Katon ah. David Schaefer, son of Mr. and Mrs. Stanley Schaefer of Valley Road spent the Aug. 2 weekend in Atlantic City, N.J. visiting Bill Subin who was a member of the Class of 1963 from Dartmouth with Dave. Mrs. Durand Tibbetts of Day- tona Beach, Fla. arrived in Katonah on Tuesday. Aug. 6 and will be visiting with rela- #tives and friends until her de parture Auc;. 19. Over sixty boys and girls are participating in nature, shop, twirling, arts and crafts, and athletic skills. Highlight of the week includ ed wrestling instruction, boys and. girls softball game,' girls winning 8-6, a soccer game with Camp Greeley. Camp .Greeley winning 4-0 and a na ture scavenger hunt, winners are Fred Schwark, Bob and Steve Nordozzi and Chris Reis. For the remainder of the week Camp Millwood will fea ture a bicycle Rodeo, an awards day finally an all camp cookout. Assisting the program are Chris Holden, Carol Graham, Fran Turner, Barbara Carpen ter, Allen Longman and Doug Logan. POUND RIDGE— A resolution for the establish ment of an ordinance designed to protect homeowners border ing the gravel pit operation was passed last Friday by the Pound Ridge Town Board. As soon as a contour map of the area is prepared, a spokes man said, the matter will be referred to the planning Board for further study. In addition, the board in an executive session formed a sev en - man committee to work closely with the Planning Board. The committee is to consist of a representative from the Town Board, members of both town garden clubs, a resident from Stone Hill Road and a resident of Old Stone Hill Road, a representative from the Pound Ridge Community Association and the highway superintendent. Howard Shalen, representing the community association, urg ed the board to prepare suffi cient controls for the gravel pit in order to guard the welfare of the surrounding landowners. In other business, the board held a public hearing on a pro posed plumbing ordinance with out hearing any objections. The ordinance was approved and adopted by the board. Also in executive session, the board con sidered names to serve on the plumbing board which will have authority to issue plumbing li censes. According to the ordin ance, the board must comprise a plumber, a doctor, a business man, a member of the Town Board, and the building inspec tor. The problem was presented to the board over a month ago when a local resident insisted he could not practice plumbing within the town because there was no way for him to obtain a license. Formerly, the town re quired plumbers to have a per mit issued by another town in order to do plumbing work. $2 Million Sewer Bonds Authorized YORKTOWN HEIGHTS— A resolution for the issuance of $2,038,000 worth of bonds to cover construction costs for all lateral sewers in Yorktown Heights Sewer District Ext. No. 1 was passed Tues., Aug. 6 by the Town Board. At the same meeting, bids for work on the Mohansic- Taconic Manor area lateral sewer lines were opened. Low bidder for the job was Schipp Construction Co. of Mahopac at $318,475. The bid was awarded to the low bid der on recommendation of the consulting engineer. Parcels of work in the sew er district will be put out for bid over the next few months, a town spokesman said. The automobile industry con sumes 61.6 per cent of all the rubber used in the United States. She returned to Canton on Saturday and when Mr. Eidens has completed his teaching at St. Lawrence Uni versity, Mrs. Eidens and chil dren will go to Lake Chattaqua for a week's vacation and will then join Mr. Eidens at their new home. Their So. Church St. home has been purchased by Mr and Mrs. Warren Hartung of White Plains. Mr. and Mrs. Charles Deickler arrived Aug. 4 from Vero Beach, Fla. and are the guests of Mr. Deickler's son and daughter-in- law, Mr. and Mrs. Barry Deick ler and family of Woodland Road. Mis. William Barron of Bab bitt Road accompanied Mr. and Mrs. Eugene Powell of Bedford to Utica. Michigan on Saturday and they all returned Monday accompanied by Mrs. James Barron and daughter, Susan who will visit local relatives. They will stay with Mrs. James Bar ron's brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. Powell. The James Barron family, who lived for 14 years in Dallas, moved in July to Michigan. Their son, Peter is working this sumer in Dallas but will come to -Bedford Hills for a visit before resuming col; lege. _ , 5 Mrs. Ethel Drever of Babbitt Road and her daughter, Mrs. Jack Armstrong of Franklin Drive were at Idlewild Airport Gas Theft, Crash Cases Adjourned MOUNT KISCO— The cases of Roscoe Caston and Edward Mendillo are ad journed until tonight according to Police Justice Frederick Shulman. Caston. 23, of 77 Cortland St., Tarrytown, is free on $75 bail after being arraigned for al legedly leaving the scene of an accident at Leonard Park Sun day. Mendillo, 19, of 108 Brook St., Eastchester, was arraigned Wednesday on a charge of petty larceny for allegedly siphoning gasoline from trucks belonging to a Mount Kisco construction company. He is free on $100 bail. Both men requested the ad- journaments during last night's session of police court. Firemen Called Twice For Electrical Blaze CHAPPAQUA— A persistent electrical fire at the home of Joseph Tully, 91 Or chard Ridge Rd., was extinguish ed by Chappaqua firemen after six hours and two calls last week. According to New Castle po lice, alarms were sounded at 4:45 and 9:27 p.m. Confined within the walls on the first and second floors, the fire broke through the walls only in the cellar. According to Mr. Tully, the fire started in the electrical wir ing outside his home and spread throughout the house. He was unable to estimate the extent of the damage. on Saturday evening to meet members of Mrs. Drever's fam ily who are her guests. They are a brother-in-law and sister, Mr. and Mrs. William Bateman and a brother and sister-in-law, Mr. and Mrs. Ernest Crowe, all of Vancouver, British Columbia. Miss Jo Tyler, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Parker Tyler of Cherry St. arrived by plane Wednesday morning in San Francisco and was met at the airport by her maternal grand parents, Mr. and Mrs. Frank Brimmer of Livermore, Calif. On Friday of last week, Miss Ty ler left on a Youth Caravan Tour of norther California with a group of 21 young people and four adults, sponsored by the Presbyterian Church in Liver- more. They will be gone a week. Mr. and Mrs. Brimmer celebrate their 50th wedding anniversary on Aug. 20 and to mark the oc casion, will take their grand daughter to San Francisco where the will stay at the Sheri- tan Palace Hotel. Mrs. Hugo Carlson was re moved to Northern Westchester Hospital via ambulance on Wed nesday of last week after she sustained a broken hip as the re sult of a fall in her home on Woodland Road. Michael Pennessi returned home Friday from Northern Westchester Hospital where he had undergone a tonsilectomy the previous day. He is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Pennessi of Cottage Terrace. Mrs. Irving Williams, daugh ter Ann an dson Benjamin, ar rived S u n d a y by bus at Char- lottetown, Prince Edward Island joining another son, David who has been visiting her parents, Mi\ and Mrs. George MacMillan at their home there. Mr. Wil liams and their eldest son, Jim will join the family on the Mari time Province as soon as sum mer school at Fox Lane ends. The Bedford Hills Fire Depart ment answered a call to the Wil- lard Simpkins home on Broad- brook Road on Thursday and ex tinguished a fire in a shed on the property. Following an absence of five / weeks which included four week vacation and a week at Camp Epworth near Kingston, The Rev. Frank A. Klausman will return to Bedford Hills this week and will again take over his pas toral dutes on Sunday. Philip Peoples gave the sermon at the service last Sunday. Wilbur J. Huntington of Bed ford Road returned last week from Norwich, Conn, where he attended the annual vacation meeting of the Huntington Fam ily Association. This association was formed in 1857 and has held periodic reunions ever since. In 1863 the first family history was published and a much larger volume entitled \The Huntington Family Memoir\ was produced in 1915. Mr. Huntington has been working for the past three years on material for a supplement and the 1963 book has just come off the press. At last week's meeting he was presented with the first copy which had been given a special binding with his name engraved on the cover. In 1962 Mr. Huntington was elect ed historian for the Association -Wadi Haifa, Sudan, had no rain in a 10-year record of ob servations. 6 Area Scouts In New Mexico For 12 Days CHAPPAQUA— Six Boy Scouts from North ern Westchester are among those representing the Wash ington Irving Scout Council at the Philmont Scout Ranch in Cimarron, N.M. The 31 Westchester Boy Scouts and two leaders left Monday to spend 12 days at the camp in the Sangre de Cristo mountain range and sightsee in Chicago and Den ver. Recently the group went through final preparations for the trip at the Purdy Scout Reservation in White Plains. As part of their activities they practiced the out-door living techniques that they would need in Mexico. Making the trip from this area are: Wilson Binger, Bruce Kennedy and Bill Mc- Bride of Chappaqua; Mark Davis of Katonah; and Ro bert Brennan and Drew Out house of Croton Falls. For the student,..
