Tuesday, October 9, was set as the date of a public hearing on a petition to residents in the ex treme west end of Town for ad mission to the Millwood Fire Dis-, trict. The district is in the north- west corner of the Town, and preliminary inspection of the petition shows it to foe signed -by more than the required owners of 50 percent.-of the property valuation of the area. Acquisition by the Town .. of •property at the end of Highland Avenue to complete its being de veloped through to Prospect Drive was reported completed by Mr. Travis. The matter now goes to the Planning Board. Highland Avenue is to be made one-way entering Prospect Drive to pre vent the dangerous situation created when cars enter King Street from Highland Avenue. An invitation from the North ern Westchester Planning Com mission to attend the reorgani zation meeting of that body Oc tober 2 was received by the Board. The Board was invited to have representatives present at the meeting as preliminary to a consideration of joining the Planning Commission. The Board will consult with the Town Plan ning Board on attendance at the meeting and on the representa tives to be sent, since the assump tion by the Planning Board of wider planning responsibilities places with the Board some choice as to what kind of pro fessional assistance it will use. Town Attorney Travis was in structed by the Board to be pre sent at the hearing before the Public Service Commission on NEW CASTLE NEWg, FRIDAY, SEPTEMBER 28, 1951 the reduction of gas rates in Westchester. Our chuck hunters are becom ing really active again as more and more hay and grain fields in the area are being cut and cleared. This gives us a chance to see these fat little fellows again. They are very active at ^his season, incidentally, as they ^re busy storing up that layer of fat that will have to last them all winter. A surprising number of chucks are being taken by our local archers. This certainly speaks well for both the stalking ability and also marksmanship of our local bowmen. This will undoubtedly show some results in our coming deer season. We have had numerous in quiries as to whether or not a license is required to shoot ver min. It most certainly is, boys, if you intend to be in the field with either rifle, shotgun or bow. The only place you do not re quire a license is on a range. But then why should we quibble?
