Price of Quaker Road, who is living in London, that she spent some time in Scotland with the Misses Elizabeth and Margaret Stobo, exchange teachers at Horace Greeley School in 1948. Miss Price writes a beautifully descrip tive story of a week's hike with Miss Margaret Stobo through the Cairngorms on the west of Scotland. They took a train from Glasgow to Aviemore, the walking starting point. They returned via Perth to Glasgow, from Glasgow to Lesmahagow, the village where the Misses Stobo have a country cottage. Miss Alice M. Barry and Miss Sylvia M. Kurson, teachers at Horace Greeley, are expected to spend a week with the Misses Stobo this sum mer. Mrs. Joseph R. Barrett of Hardscrabble Road has left to spend a few weeks with her sister, Mrs. Fred Harmon, at Chap- paquidick, Mass. While she's away, Anne is keeping house for her father, and Tom plans to join his mother this weekend. Can't keep a Barrett down. Mr. and Mrs. Joseph D. Weiss of King Street returned this week from a vacation in Puerto Rico. The Misses Barbara Jane and Caroline Ann Murray have left for a two-week vacation in Kingston, New York. The Walter H. Latest reports from Vermont, where Jacques Mitchell Jr. arrived this week, are that Peter Mitchell and his cousin are making a movie on fishing for Grantland Rice, well-known sports writer. In technicolor, the film will be a sports short. Were we or were we not talking of Chappaqua as a \celebrity\ town? Mrs. Raymond Johnson of Dodge Farm has left Chappaqua for a brief visit with her mother, Mrs. Grace Osborne, in Hast ings, Mich. George Williams and his Rhythm Wranglers played at the recent opening of the Lake Carmel Country Club, mixing busi ness with pleasure. Nicky Joukovsky of Dodge Farm is leaving to attend Camp Reed, a Boy Scout Camp near Lake George. He expects to be gone two weeks. Word has gotten around that Private Robert H. Niebuhr has been stationed at the Sampson Air Force Base, Geneva, New York. Bob's comment on life with Uncle Sam is simply \the food's not so bad\ which is definitely worth noting. Mary and Duncan Aswell of Hardscrabble Road left this week for a vacation at Martha's Vineyard. Mr. and Mrs. Dennis E. Kent, formerly of Rye, have bought the E. L. Presby house on Hardscrabble Road, and according to \reliable sources\ are doing a magnificent paint job on it. The Presbys, meanwhile, are vacationing in the Virgin Islands. Mr. and Mrs. Granville Foss of Deepwood are at Lake Se- bago, Maine, for a few weeks' vacation. The Leslie H. Fishels and their daughter, Barbara, of Hard scrabble Road, spent a weekend visiting their son, Leslie Jr., his wife and three children in Arlington, Mass. Police Chief Leslie Romaine is back at his desk at head quarters after his vacation. Mrs. Eliza Fisher, school lunch cook at Roaring Brook School, attended the School Lunch Personnel and Training School at State University Island Agricultural and Technical Institute at Farmingdale, L. I., July 16-20. This program is spon sored by the State Education Department and includes classes in nutrition, meal planning, large quantity cookery and other phases of school lunch management. Among several hundred guests seen at the annual picnic given by I. S. Manheimer at his estate on Somerstown Road, Ossining, last Thursday, for magazine publishers and those in allied fields, were Mr. and Mrs. Edward McSweeney, Mr. and Mrs. Wesley Jones, E. A. Piller and Mr. and Mrs. Leverett S. Gleason, all of Chappaqua. Dr. and Mrs. Robert E. Bell and daughter, Sally, of Hamil ton Road, are sailing on Saturday, July 28, on the Queen Eliza beth. They will return on the Mauretania, arriving in New York September 4. Walter B. Carr of Castle Road has just returned from a short visit to Gloucester, Mass., where his family is spending a few weeks. Mr. Carr is the new owner of the New Castle Wines and Spirits on South Greeley Avenue which he purchased from E. L. Presby and took over on June 1. This may not be known to most of the customers since Mr. Carr and Mr. Barrett have been \fixtures\ in the store. Mr. and Mrs. William F. Hoeft are motoring to New Mexico and Colorado with their four children, Bill, Nancy, Douglas and Bruce. Bill is going to Philmont Scout Reservation at Cimarron, N. M. The Hoefts will be away a month.
