Y. Miss Bruning, whose home is in White Plains, is 19 years old, a sophomore at Wellesley and present holder of the national intercollegiate and Tri-County titles. She began to play when she was 15. \It doesn't seem long ajo,\ her mother remarked, \that Barbara used to caddy for me. Then she said that she didn't mind caddying if she could play once in a while, and that's how it all started.\ Barbara is also a skilled ath lete in other fields. She plays field hockey, tennis and ping pong. She plans now to compete in the nationals, which will con siderably improve the metropoli tan area's entry. This week, in announcing its endorsement of a slate for town offices, the New Castle Republi- cwi Club issued the following statement: \In line with its avowed pur pose of scrutinizing the qualifi cations for Town office, the New Castle Republican Club has en dorsed the candidacies of Robert B. Stewart for Supervisor, Mar tin Huberth and Nicholas Harvey for Councilmen, Judges Adams and Sweet for Justices of the Flbce and Mrs. Lester P. Maras co and Charles Wertheimer for School Directors. \Supervisor Stewart's qualifi cation for office lies in his ex perienced 'know how' of munici pal government. Judge Adams' several years service in the hon est administration of justice and Judge Sweet's record in Chappa qua require the acclaim of ap- E ^val. \For Councilmen, Marty Hu berth and Nick Harvey, on their achievements in civic life, form a team which will instill new thoughts and active participa tion in town affairs. Both Hu berth and Harvey have served the community well in offering leadership in the humdrum ac tivities that must be done to ieve success for Cub Scouts, iy Scouts, Town Club, Dads \It is with the deep realization of the proper performance of a civic duty that the New Castle Republican Club endorses these candidates.\ Francis Outlines Rec. The upper right hand corner of this page, as every regular reader knows, customarily car ries the big news story of the week. Or at least whatever story towers over the general run of Chappaqua events. This week, this reporter, now a seasoned second-string sub stitute, who is currently in for Lou Brennan while Lou vaca tions, attended the meeting of the Town Board, where he ex pected to pick up the story for that space. Well, it was interesting, and for a man who had never at tended a town board meeting before, educational. But look up there and see for yourself how unpredictable news is. The meeting opened with the board considering several bids for town land, which I suppose had been taken over for taxes. They were quickly disposed of ] with the acceptance of bids usu ally being moved by Mr. Burpo and seconded by Mr. Cubbins. Anybody whose interest in know ing who got what is keen can, I suppose, refer to the town re cords. Mr. Stewart, Town Supervisor, then suggested a couple of shifts in town funds to take care of urgencies and these were car- (Continued on Page 2) CPL. PEUGEOT KILLED IN KOREA 3 Recreation and Planning Again Urged For Town Carlebach Asks Recreation Increase Decker Offers Planning Resolution Recreation facilities for the Town of New Castle and planning for the Chappaqua business area again came up for discussion this week. William D. Carlebach, acting chairman of the Democratic Town Committee, released a letter which he had sent to Super visor Robert Stewart in which he urged that the Town Board \take definite steps to increase recreation facilities and implement the recreation program of the Town of New Castle.\ Mr. Carlebach pointed out that if the recreation budget should be increased in line with his suggestion, it might be necessary, in . fairness to Mount Kisco resi dents who now have recreation (facilities of their own, to make some allowance for their not paying into this fund. He -further urged that the Town Board \undertake an im mediate study to determine the best method of setting up and financing the kind of recreation program . . . and facilities that residents need.\ At the Town Board meeting on July 24, Councilman Francis Decker introduced a resolution that suggested in part, \provi sion should be made for adequate playgrounds and other perma nent recreational facilities, and (that) the town-owned land around the Chappaqua station Love That \For Love Or Money\ There's as much fun as you'll probably ever have in the thea tre at the Westchester Playhouse this week, where John Loder and Sally Brophy romp through \For Love or Money,\ and seem to have a swell time themselves do ing it. John Loder says that he has played it so often he can figure his income tax while he breezes along it. But his performance, a wonderfully clever and adept one, is fresh and sparkling and he gets out of the F. Peugeot Jr., in the war zone on July 8. He was a member of Ossining's National Guard Company serving in Ko rea. In the hot political battle that has split the New Castle Repub lican Club and the Town Repub lican Committee, Fifth District Candidates for County Commit teemen, Earl and Gerlach, last week accused George Warbur ton, President of the New Castle Republican Club, of violating election laws in spirit if not in letter. They pointed to paragraph nine of the election laws, entitled \Party Funds Not to be Expended for Primary Purposes\ and im plied that New Castle Republican Club funds had aided the candi dacies of Dr. A. N. Greminger and Mrs. Philander Eates, who oppose them. This week, George Warburton issued the following statement: \The charge of illegal use of the funds of any organization by its president is a grave one\ George Warburton, President of the New Castle Republican Club, said today. Mr. Warburton was discussing charges made by Don ald Earl, candidate for County Committeeman from the 5th District, that he had used the funds of the Republican Club to further the campaign of Mrs. Philander Bates and Dr. A. N. Greminger as against Donald Earl and Marjorie Gerlach. \Such accusation should never be made unless the maker is will ing and able to document it or unless he is entirely willing to ignore the laws of libel\ Mr. Warburton continued. \However Mr. Earl has seen fit to make this charge unsupported by one iota of evidence. He cannot get •my evidence because r.one ex ists. The Republican Club has not and does not intend to con tribute one cent to the campaign of Dr. Greminger and Mrs. Bates. iJoriLnued on Page 12)
