NEW CASTLE NEWS, FRIDAY, MARCH 16, 1951 • 19 Course Conducted In Girl Scout Work |ifAffour-session basic training ^course for volunteer Girl Scout Jt^orkersls being conducted at the ^Chappaqua Scout House on Roar ing brook Road. The two-hour jppetings are held on Wednesday mornings under the direction ox the training committee of the Chappaqua Girl Scout Council. Members of this committee are Mrs. Orrin McCorison, Mrs. Hen- sieigh Wedgwood, Mrs. Dyson Duncan and Mrs. Emil Ortlie'o. 'l'hese four women, who are qual ified trainers, received their dip lomas from Mrs. Roland Mac- u. County training chairman, §ne end of an intensive course -^n naming on March 1 in a cere- -ody in Pleasantville. . Ine purpose of the present course is to train local women who are interested in the com munity scouting program in basic Girl Scout principles and prac tices. The members of this group are Mrs. Ray Hulsart, Mrs. Ed win Hoffarth, Mrs. Eugene downing, Mrs. Torquato DeFe- lice, Mrs. John Volkhardt, Mrs. George Weigl and Mrs. Donald Ross. CREDIT The directional signs that will show you the way to the Roaring irook school dedication were Le and donated to the Parent ^achers Association by Fred W :eyn of Pleasantville. of past glory—like campaign ribbons during the war. We will make one more half- promise. As many as we can squeeze in of the photographs submitted in the latter days of the contest will be published in The News the day the winners are announced, March 23. It isn't always as simple as you'd think to make up a newspaper, and space is usually at a prem ium. But we'll try, and for a very good reason: the over whelming majority of photo graphs submitted to us have been of genuinely charming kids; as far as we personally can juug? they're mostly winners, ducn sentiments, of course, complete- y disqualify us to render a ds- cision, and it's a good thing we aout have to, because it would n't oe much of a contest with out winners. Our sentiments are Ocst expressed, therefore, in the publication of the forty or fifty photographs who are all win ners in our books. A sucker for juvenile charm, that's us. Late Bulletin The resignation of Mrs. Harold Clum as one of the contest judges was laid on our desk this week. Mrs. Clum's reason is the very good one of the serious illness of her husband. Mrs. Edward (Marion) Murtfeldt of Hamilton Drive, head of the Girl Scout Council here, has agreed to serve as the third judge. A good judge replaced by a good judge will mean no loss to the candidates. All the commitments aren't in yet on the prizes for honorable mentions; and at any rate will vary with the recipient, for ex ample, a nine year old dre^s for a nine year old girl, a pair of 44's for a Hopalong Jr., etc. We'll be able to announce them, next week for sure. We think. But Mere will be honorable mentions. But those who don't win prizes will not go unrewarded, at leas* those who had their photo graphic entries in in time for publication. We have the cuts used to produce the published pictures in our office, and we will be glad to give them to the proper entrants, their parents, that is, if they will call for them. Ae cuts are the kind of thing you can use on Christmas cards or birthday cards. At any rate they're nice to have around, if for nothing else, then mementoes WILLIAM D.
