Allen Smith, the sage of Old ' Roaring Brook Road, has been persuaded without reluctance to make the principal address at the Chappaqua Library Asso ciation's annual meeting on 'C. Monday, January 8, at 8:15 p.m at ^the. library buidling on Seri- ter StreSti.it was announcedithis week \with pardonable pride by ^ v the Association. Mr. Smith has been a resident of Chappaqua since 1944, when he got lost on Old Roaring Brook Road while looking for a house in Connecticut which he intend ed to buy as a home. Fascin ated by what he saw he bought his present home after one peek through the window arid a firm to investigate further for _lar of spoiling first impressions. He is married and has two chil dren, one girl attending the Uni versity of North Carolina and a boy with the Dow Chemical Company. He. is also the author of the following: Low. Man on a Totem Pole; \Life in a Putty Knife Factory; Lost in the Horse Latitudes; Lo, the Poor Egyptian; We Went Thataway; and People Named Smith. The annual meeting of the As sociation is held for • the pur pose of electing new trustees to replace those; whose terms have constitutionally expired. To be replaced this year are Mrs. Bar ron Proctor, Mrs. Granville Foss and David Scott. Nominations for the new trustees will be made .by a nominating commit tee' composed of representatives of'.the Chappaqua American Le-. jjion,,the JLeaigue of Women Vot ers, the:Town Club, the ;P.T .A7 and the Chamber of Commerce. The service [ dancing class will receive in here during the holiday rush really was superior, and no mail came in that didn't go out im mediately. The Post Office staff worked longer hours ..than any staff we've heard about in the' vicinity, and made full use of the hours worked. New re? cords were set, of course, in mail handling, as they have been every Christmas since the war. 5800 more cancellations than last year's record were made, and in coming mail, though uncounted, has had a comparable increase. Parcel post deliveries were, made by the Chappaqua staff all day Sunday and on Christmas. Per sons with mail in the office who could not otherwise be reached were phoned. This- is not the struction from two teachers from the Arthur Murray Studios.
