Parish House (Continued from Page One; tember our architect, Daniel D. Merrill of New York City, had final bids in and they were sub mitted to the Vestry. We found tnf cost of the building the ground floor unit of our Parish House would run, close to $45,000, an increase over what it would have cost if we had built it last fall, due to the skyrocketing of building costs. \Nevertheless the Rector con tinued, \our fund-raising com mittee had doae its job well. They had $25,000 in hand and we u0*e able to secure another $20,000 so that our Parish House fund now contains the necessary monies to begin construction. At a recent meeting our Vestry awarded the building contract to O'Brien and Kinkel, Inc. Building Cofmittee to proceed Mount Kisco, and instructed the Building Committee to proceed with construction.\ The new Parish House, when e€lntually completed, will be a two story structure ( but at the present time only ' the ground floor is being built. It will be lo cated on the church property on Greeley Avenue immediately to Don't forget to save your old paper for the Boy Scout paper collection on December 2. /Ye Can Help You HEAR tfre-e&st-\ JW&')•' off the *»c^r<^%. se'te.'The,' J &1alt3ihg.* wilfcriim no£%, and^ou'tii alon^ che back lint* ox the property. A boiler room and j dcorage space will be located in ' an excavated basement under the south end of the structure, which 1 will house the rector's study, coat ' room, entrance lobby, lavatories, ; and kitchen large enough to 1 handle the preparation and j serving of church suppers for ' 2b0 people. The parish hall will be in the north end of the building, will be 36 by 52 feet in size and will have no columns. It wily, seat 250 persons in chairs or 18o at tables. According to building chair man John Rittenhouse, the Par ish House will be constructed along simple lines. A special oat meal-colored concrete block is being used which will blend har moniously with the landscape and witn the stonework of booh the church ana adjacent Horace Greeley School. All unnecessary interior work, such as painting and plastering, has been elimin ated in order to keep costs wiih- m the budget. Once the building- is up the committee feels sure Ways will be found to include these extras gradually, probably through special projects under taken by groups of parishioners themselves. The westerly wall ol the Parish KLase will eventually have a stone-facing added to make it conform with the archi tecture of the church and of the school. Provis.on ha. been made in the preseu ioundatiors ±or this facing to be added at a lai.er date. The Rev. Howard D. Perkins, rector of the church, pomted ouio tna,o the .parish was proud of the fact that it had been able to ra.se the necessary monies among its own parish families, that it had not felt it .should solicit funds from the community at large for a project which was so ba.ically tor the parish's own use and benefit. Still some friends of the church did send gifts which were gratefully received. The Junior and Sen ior High groups set up a $500 goal for themselves and made it by staging two dances, a combinat ion supper and bazaar, a food sale and a distribution of mite-boxes in which they collected \pennies for the Parish House\.The young sters of the lower grades set out to raise $100 and easily beat that goal with the aid of several pro jects of their own.
