Members of the Police Department have not had a raise since 1948 when each received $150 increase in their cost of living bonus. The present pay scale, with cost of living bonus included, is extremely low when compared with other West chester townships. For example, New Castle ranks 17th from the top in. patrolman's pay scale out of 20 townships. The Police and Fire Committee of the Town Club believes the pay level for our po lice force should at least equal the average county scale. An extra prowl car would also provide transportation for the Chief of Police on his official duties without reducing the road patrol. The prese.it radio equipment used by our police has already exceeded its expected normal working life by 30'r . Its replace ment will become increasingly urgent from now on. As the Armed Forces increase their equipment requirements it will become impossible to purchase these needed replacements. Mr. Bleier, in explaining the Board of Governors cf the Town Club's endorsement of the prcpo :2d increase in the budget for the police Department, said, \The Police and Fire Protection Committee of the Town Club hias given detailed consideration to the Police Department budget for 1951. As a result of their stu dies and unanimous endorsement, the Board of Governors of the Town Club urges the inclusion of the Police Department increases in thte pneiMtfinary budget.''
