Tunis, noted sports- |vriter, tennis authority and .author of sports stories for young people, will make the afternoon tof November 16 a memorable one ^t the Chappaqua Library, it was 5 ?ar^ounced this week by Mrs. aJklargaret Handley, librarian. He g|will entertain the high school- lage boys of Chappaqua at an af- jf ;er school coke party with an informal talk on sports, a ques- ion and answer period and se lected readings from famous iports stories. The program, which has been rranged by Mrs. Irene Rope, lycmng people's librarian, will be- ^irrimmediately after school and gwill be over in time to send the iboys home for their evening meal Mr. Tunis is a graduate of Har vard, where he played on the lennis team and was a runner on _ e track squad. After the end of jhe first world war he turned to Jjvriting sports for newspapers iand magazines. He was, for 12 t ^ears, sportswriter for the New ^|?# k Evening Post, covering na- ;j|onal and international sports, She Olympic Games, the Wimble- lion tournament and Davis Cup latches. For a decade he was »ports announcer for NBC cover ing all Davis Cup matches at Wimbledon, Roland Garros and forest Hills. He has appeared in countless magazines and is the author of 22 books. \Iron Duke\ Mr. Tunis' first novel for young people, was pub lished in 1938. Since then he has written \Champion's Choice\ \The Duke Decides\ \The Kid from Tompkinsville\ \World Series\ \All American\ \Key stone Kids\ \Rookie of the Year\ and many others. The Freedom Bell mobile unit or the Freedom Bell truck has ap peared in almost 30 Westchest er communities, according to Mr. Nicolaysen. The termination date of the campaign in the County is today, November 10. Members of the C. of C. special events, com mittee are William D. Carlebach and Mrs. Faith Presby. The New Castle News, also a member of the Chamber of Commerce, ratea an assise on the Chappaqua Free dom Crusade program according to Mr. Nicolaysen. \We had very little time to give im ^rusade the publicity it needed to insure a large turnout of signers\ Mr. Nicolaysen said. \The only dates available to us left us little choice, and we had to bring the Bell when we could at least hope for a crowd, as we did hope for a crowd that would have come to the football game, had there been fairer weather conditions. It would have been decidedly unfortunate if Chappa qua had allowed itself to be re miss in this American crusade. However, those who did see us recognized instantly what the Crusade was about and cooperat ed wonderfully\.
