These three functions are im portant to the school in that they act as a balance and a check on the other bodies in the school system of government. The members are selected as follows: three members are elected by the \voting public\ of the school during elections in May; three are appointed by the president of the G. O. and these appointments are in turn, ap proved by the Student Council; two girls from Girls' Service Club, and two boys from Boys' Service Club are appointed by the presidents of each club. The Committee is the final step for the violators of school rules and regulations. In this way it acts as the judiciary body of the school. Fashion is a fickle gal ... al ways looking for something new. But its fun to string along with her. Remember those dirty saddle shoes we used to love so dearly? Overnight loafers became fickle fashion's firsts love, and now sad dle shoes are scorned by eager beavers who are on their toes. And speaking of toes . . . ballet slippers hit town last year and became the rage of smart chicks from coast to coast. By the way, have you ever gone to Capezio's at 1612 Broadway in New York? There you can get the real McCoy for 2.25. (Also leather soled from 3.75). Ballet slippers in all colors and fabrics created for the stage, but now a- vailable to anyone. Ever think of pinning your identification barettes on your slippers buckle-wise? Your name on one, his name on the other... The fellows hated gals who wore pants, and Fickle Fashion eager to please, chopped off part of the leg length on slacks, made 'em more lady-like, and offered up Clam-digger shorts. You know, those just-below-knee length jobbies. You can make your own by just lopping off the legs of that old pair of slacks about five inches \THE YOUNG IDEA' By Mossier POEM BY A THANKFUL BOY OF NINE Dear God and Lord, We are thankful to be here, To see the harvest of this year. We. are thankful for the sun and day, And for the water and stars we are thankful in every way. We are thankful that in the day we may play, And in the night on our beds we lay. And sleep in the dark of the night, And in the morning see the sunlight. 0 To sleep in our comfortable beds, With nice soft pillows for our heads. Thank you that the war is over and that there is peace again, And that no more soldiers have to die from pain and strain. And that there is always peace from now onwards, We are thankful for the flowers and birds. And we are thankful for our pets And for the fish we sometime catch in nets.—Amen. Then I'll kinda let it lie around, and it might pay good Christmas dividends!'' below your knee. Turn them un der to hide rough edges and sew. You can either leave them hang straight or slightly peg the cuff. Top with a turtle neck sweater, belt with a braid of matching wool, and presto . . . super style and comfort deluxe. Christmas isn't far off you know. Lady Fashion remember ed as far back as last July when she put her head together with some of our top designers to dream up Christmas fun clothes. Tops in the Christmas collec tion is a daring wool jersey by Judy N' Jill. And if you are not afraid of the cold you'll wisk off the brief bolero jacket, and be a whistle-stop in a sensational bare back dress with a wonderful fur halter-neckline. What an eye ful for your big moment. It's a winner in grey at B. Altman in New York for about 25.00. Rumor has it that at Xmas time the Judy N' Jill department at Lord and Taylor will show a whole slew of these peek-a-boo fashions. First on your Christmas color calender is that new Champagne white. Seventh Heaven at Sak's Fifth Avenue has a whole series of dresses in this dreamy-cream color all designed by glamorous Dorris Varnum and bearing the Jonathan Logan label. These party-pickups sell for about 12 dollars, sizes 9 to 15. Look too for the ice-green and pink cham pagne colors. Date-time tidbits that make you look out of this world. Thrill of the year is making something new of something old. . . . for instance that plaid skirt that you've teamed with every sweater, blouse, and cardigan jacket in your closet. Now you're bored, all out of ideas. But wait . . . don't throw it away. Instead, how about buying about two yards of matching plaid . .. then fringe the ends for about three inches and sling it over the left shoulder. Pull it in scarf-effect over to the other side and tuck your fringe under a slim belt. Wonder girl! Tip your hat to the Scots .. . you look terrific! Fickle fashion says that this is a natural for a new look. Recipe —three dog collars ... one around your neck, two around your waist. Serve with a matching sweater and skirt, or a simple wool dress. Result—a dream dish! Fashion gals in the know say that it is not how long you have something but how you wear it, and what you do with what you have. So don your thinking caps, get on the beam with new ideas . . . and remember that BMOC (Big Man on Campus) is just as susceptible to day-time date-bait as he is to candle-time glamor. Fashion is a 24 hour gal. NANCY No Audience By Ernie Bushmiller
