Conservatory's concerto competition is open to young instrumentalists Applications are being accepted for the Seventh Annual Concerto Competition for young instrumentalists sponsored by the Westchester Conservatory of Music. The competition is open to advanced music students up to age 20. To be eligible, competitors must live in West chester or be taught by West chester music teachers; they need not be enrolled in the Conservatory. Each competitor will be required to perform a complete concerto on their instrument and one additional solo piece. Outstanding professionals will act as Judges, choosing winners from each of the three divisions: string, wind and keyboard. Winners in each will have a chance to play their concerto with the Westchester Con servatory Symphony Orchestra, conductor, Gabriel Banat, in the spring, and receive a $100 cash prize. The preliminary audition will be held at the Conservatory Sunday, Feb. 8 and the final audition is on Sunday, Feb. 15. Applications at the Westchester Conservatory of Music. Robbery Two males forced their way into Mrs. Vincent's home, threw her to the ground, and ransacked her Pinesbridge Road home early Friday afternoon, Dec. 5 The men were described as Hispanic. They escaped the area in a brown Toyota Celica hatchback, driven by a third person. Criminal Mischief Three Roaring Brook Road residents reported that their cars had been tampered with over the weekend as well. Mrs. Short of 300 Roaring Brook Road reported the glove compartment of one of her cars was' damaged and the contents were strewn over the driveway. Her neighbors, Robin Vaugn of 291 and William Denison, of 301, reported similar incidents. Mr. Denison said his car registration and other papers had been destroyed. Two Chappaqua residents DATELINE CHAPPAQUA Christmas Tree sale A community Christmas Tree Sale will be sponsored this year by the Youth Fellowship of the First Congregational Church, and will continue from Dec. 5 through to Christmas. Douglas firs, Scotch pines, Balsam, Fraser evergreens will be offered, as well as greens and wreaths. The sale runs week days from 3 to 5:30 p.m. and on weekends 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturdays, 11 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Sundays. Proceeds will go to benefit the general church fund and special activities of the Youth Fellowship group. This annual sale was begun in the mid 1950's by the Couples Club to raise money for the building of the church sanctuary, parish hall and Sunday School wing. Bell School Concert Music students at tlie Robert E. Bell School will present their annual winter concert on Thurs day, Dec. 11 at 8:15 p.m. in the Horace Greeley High School auditorium. The orchestra, under the direction of Robert Seller, will play works by Muller, Whitney and Beethoven. The eighth grade chorus, directed by Paul Hunkins, will sing selections by Waring, Hamlisch and Handel and the seventh grade chorus will present pieces by Butler, Williams and Bernard, under the direction of Linda Barnes. The concert will conclude with the symphonic band, directed by Richard Oliver, playing Hovey, Purcell and Oliver. The program is open to par ents and friends. No admission. Theatre workshop A workshop in Theatre for grades 6-9 will include theatre games, puppetry and improvisa- tional acting, Saturday, Dec. 13, 11 a.m. at the Library. Call 238- 4779 to register. Andrea Israel and Mela Mitchell, Kipp School Art Center Instructors and graduates of the National Thea tre Institute, will conduct the program. Concert Choristers from Horace Greeley! High School and John F. Kennedy High School in Plainview, L.I., will join voices for their 14th annual exchange concert on Fri., Dec. 12 at 8:15 p.m. in the Greeley auditorium. The singers will present selections by Haydn, Pergoleri, Lekberg, desPrez and Durufle. Greeley's chorus is directed by Ronald Dunn. Elementary school program Holiday Art Workshop at the Community Center - part of. the Saturday Elementary School Program, Dec. 13, 11 a.m. to noon. WUkuison of Tanglewild Place said she found the passenger door and sides of her 1980 BMW dented, on Monday Dec. 1. Her car was parked on High Ridge Road. Mr. R. Burns of Pinecliff Road reported the door of his '79 Honda was kicked In Thurs., Dec. 4 at the Horace Greeley High School {parking lot. The air was let out of the tires of P. Rubin's car in his Chatham Road driveway the night of Dec. 4. Mr. R. Hudson of Laurelton Road reported a similar problem Saturday night, Nov. 29. Police say they are unsure how the front window of the Chase Manhattan Bank in Millwood was broken. No theft has been reported. Bill McGoorty of the A & P Grocery Store in that shopping complex reported the incident Thurs., Dec. 4. The light post in front of Mr. J. Giuffrida's home on Saddle Ridge Road was damaged Tues., Dec. 2. Mailbox damage was reported by Mrs. Sammet of Chappaqua Mountain Road and Mrs. P. Duynhouwer of Seven Bridges Road. Larceny Four thefts in the Kisco Park area on the night of Sat., Dec. 6 appear to be related, according to New Castle Police.TXmTKauer of Pineview Road reported a stereo and a spare tire stolen from his truck, and Mr. B. Fallon of Avenue \A\ and Gerrard Racioppo of Red Oak Lane both reported stereos stolen from their cars that night. Andrew Centauro, also of Red Oak Lane, reported a radar detector, a coat, and a briefcase stolen from his car, also on Dec. 6. Arrests \\\\\ Two arrests were made in connection with burglaries at the Hudson Valley Motorcycle Shop in . Millwood, a burglary at the Mahopac Motorcycle Sales shop, a truck stolen in Yorktown Heights and a car stolen in Millwood. Twenty-year-old Joseph N. Grimont of Teakettle Spout Road in Mahopac and a youth from Yorktown Heights whose name was withheld, were charged with burglary after a three-month investigation by New Castle Police Det. Sgt. Roy-Joslyn, Carmel Del. Sgt. Greg Amatd, and Yorktown Det. Joseph Cuozzi. They were aided by Westchester Identification Technician Al Peffers. Accidents A Granite Springs man was arrested for driving while intoxicated after his '76 Olds went off the road on Valley View and knocked down a pole at 4:25 a.m. Thurs., Dec. 4. Steven Kearney, age 18, was taken by Chappaqua Ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital for minor bleeding. Three Armonk residents were injured Monday af ternon, Dec. 1 as they were pulling out of the Guthrie's driveway at 40 Devoe Road in Chapaqua. Judith Gertsen said the right wheel of the car went over new curbing and forced the car off the roadway. She then hit a tree. She and 11-year-old Rebecca Gertsen who were In the front seat, were taken by Chappaqua Ambulance to Northern Westchester Hospital for leg injuries. Christopher Gertsen age 16, was taken to the hospital for head injuries. Charles Byrne, age 18, of Millwood, escaped injury when his '72 Ford overturned. He said his front tire blew out on Route 117 and he lost control of the car at 10:41 p.m. Wed., Dec. 3. Burglaries A camera and Jewelry were stolen from the Millwood Road home of Mr. Trilling Walker on Wed., Dec. 3. The bedroom of the Aronson's Annandale Dr. home was ransacked and. Jewelry, was reported missing on Thurs., Dec. 4. Car fires A stolen car was destroyed by . fire on Wed., Dec. 3. The Millwood Fire Department responded when Edward Persbacker's '77 yellow Lincoln was found by the Birchwood pool. The car had been stolen from Commerce Street in Hawthorne. Mr. Persbacker lives in Haverstraw, New York. Chappaqua resident Mr. R. Cronln reported a car smoldering in the licenced parking lot by the Railroad Station on Tues., Dec. 2. The seat of Mr. James Stevens' '77 Pontiac Suburban was on fire. New Castle Police said the fire seemed suspicious but they had no suspects at press, time.
