Editorial For those parents who are reading this paper for the first time, I urge you to read on. The future of this college depends largely on the parents in this community, especially those with children, who have, are, or will be attending Onondaga Community College. The College is constantly being bombarded by anxious politicians and news-hungry reporters who thrive upon its existence only for their personal value. Yet, this college has more to offer. . It is an institution consisting of a highly-qualified and very professional teaching staff. It is an institution where one can easily coalesce with both the students and the instruc tors. . Onondaga Community College is a center of learning, creativity and primarily a center for self-realization. In the future of Onondaga Community College, the most vital element will be com munication. Communication within an institution is hardly enough. In a community college situation lines of communication must be channeled to government, community and social organizations, and to all concerned parents. Each concerned person or group must attempt to find the truth often witheld or distorted by the local media. The press and also the electronic media can be very detrimental to the existence of our college. The practice of “ yellow journalism” has had its leaps and bounds in the past and can often throw the reader, the viewer or the listener an item which may often be “ palatable for the gullible” . I only hope the years to come at Onondaga Community College are worth waiting for. The administrators, teachers, parents, and students must unite to form a solid foundation. Its structure will come with the building blocks found within the realm of communication. Letters To The Editor . . L e t t e r T o T h e E d i t o r : I’m God-damn sick and tired of students who have no con sideration for others who are trying to get lecture notes and get good grades. These ding bats stand outside open doored classrooms and Yack while the instructor is giving complicated notes. When 1 spoke to a girl about it she demanded, “Who do you think you are?” I’ll tell you, girl, who I am. I am a highly motivated person who has retur ned to college, after many years, to get a degree. It is very difficult being all alone and self supporting. To try to carry a full credit load, work fifteen hours, keep house, do all my own work, and try to study when I’m all worn out from putting in thirty hours a week at O.C.C. It would be a big help if you’d shut up, so I can at least get the lecture notes straight. Now, I want to know who you are. Why are you in college? Because it’s easier than going out and trying to get a job? You probably live at home with your parents to support you, and have never been on your own, with no help. You don’t even have decent manners in human relations. All you know how to do is mouth- off. That doesn’t prove anything. You don't know anything about being a human being. As for other students who sit in class and talk out loud while the instructor is lecturing. This is not your sophmore year in high school and quit acting like it is. The instructor is getting paid to lecture, he doesn’t care if we get the notes or not. I am paying to be here to learn, and you can damn well believe I want, and are entitled to quiet. Even this college has some authority to kick kids out of class if they disrupt it. Elaine Samuels STAFF NEEDED for The Other Paper next year. L e t t e r to the E d i t o r : It would be nice if there were descriptions of class titles somewhere available to the students so we don’t get stuck taking something that is not at all what we thought it would be. I am taking Soc. 152 which is titled Comparative Cultural Systems. I thought it would com pare civilized culture systems which would be of help to me in my advanced studies for social work. Instead I found out it was A nthropology, and we are studying eskimos, pygmies, wild indians in Venzuela, and etc. Who cares! As far as I’m concer ned it’s a terrible waste of my time since I have only seven courses to take before attaining my degree. Worse than that, I am trying to comprehend Human Physiology. I am taking it simply because I need the science credit. No one told me how complicated it is. It is, like proverbial gunk to me, and I can’t afford to flunk it. I can’t imagine anyone taking it unless they plan to go into a health career, or one who is in terested in memorizing all the long complicated names of parts and their functions. It really would be nice, in fact necessary, if this college had ac tual academic guidance coun selors. Elaine Samuels Letter to the Editor: There are three \Centro’’ buses, which come in the vicinity of the Community College, only one of which.stops at the college (within at least one-hundred yards Per Se). Is this an oversight or was it planned this way by the Mayor at City Hall? They come as far as Com munity Hospital. Are they at the hospital getting Priority?
