Frank and Dean of Students Samuel Schavone made the decision after students gathered for a midnight Saturday showing of the film became unruly after the showing was canceled. Frank said the pub presentation of the popular audience-participation film was called off because the projectionist did not arrive with the film. He attributed the foul-up to \a lack of communication.\ Raymond Arcuri, assistant to the director of security, said the trouble be- gan when between 200 and 300 students waiting to watch the film, some for as long as 45 minutes, were informed of the cancellation. He said the students then began throw ing water, rice, toilet paper and other materials typically thrown during show- ings of the film. \Everything they were going to throw in the pub they threw in the lounge,\ Arcuri said. He said the disorder lasted for about 45 minutes and resulted in a broken bench and a lot of clean-up work. Schavone said he and Frank decided to cancel a scheduled Sunday showing and later to never screen the movie again on campus. \Apparently our students are not mature enough\ for a film of this nature, Schavone said. Frank, however, said his office was to blame for the film not being shown. He said it was in the media center where it was supposed to be picked up by a pro- jectionist. The projectionist, however, was not informed of the situation. \If anybody should be to blame it should be our office and not the (projectionist); Frank said. Arcuri said the trouble in the lounge was relatively minor, with no injuries and only minor property damage reported. He said he and two guards on duty were unable to intervene in the mele and chose instead to wait it out. \With two or three hundred kids, what are you going to do?\ he said. \You would start the trouble you were trying to stop.\ I service were finalized. . & . cone ue Deol i PNA $ M3 \ nra +. tot “a.“ 4a k RWM L +p
