P e r f e c t s e a s o n On January 19, the SUNY Tech Wildcats took their first win against Green Mountain College in the Skidmore tourney held at Skidmore College. In addition to capturing their first win in the history of men's basketball here at SUNY Tech, the Wildcats also placed third in the two day tour nament. Dave Piotrowski made the high honor of the tournament All- Star Team. Selected by the coaching staff of New Paltz State, Green Mountain College, and Skidmore College, the head coaches felt that Dave performed outstandingly among the players at the tourney. At the end of the tourney, trophies were awarded during a small ceremony in which center, Clark Brown, accepted the third place trophy for the team. From the opening tip off, the Wildcats controlled the ball and did not allow Green Mountain to set up any kind of offense. Two new faces were seen on the court, Michael Soraz and Larry Pittz. Soraz, a transfer student from New York City, who brings much needed height to the team, played the boards with much control. Larry Pittz, who, initially started with the team last fall, but was sidelined by a knee injury, filled in as guard and played with total conviction as he led the team with points for the day. W h e n fo r w a r d Jam e s “ Popeye” Anderson was asked to comment on the game, Anderson said “ The first win is always the hardest because it breaks the ice, but we should see a definite im provement from here on in” . Paul Piotrowski and team will meet five more opponents before the end of the season. Congratulations Paul, we’U be rooting for you every game. Have you ever been to an in tramural sporting event and wondered who the fellow standing on the sidelines giving directions to other referees is? Or who was the guy who called a foul on you for touching the net on a great spike which just might have been a point for your side? Well the big mystery isn’t all that b ig of a mystery after all. In case you are wondering - it’s Joe Caruso, a part-time Athletic Assistant who helps out with our Sports Depart ment by refereeing, umpiring, and generally running things ever so smoothly at the events. Only on rare occasions would you see him at school or around campus, but come kick off, or face off, Joe’s always working to make sure everyone has a good time at each event, Always on call, it’s a wonder how he manages to find time for both the students at SUNY Tech and his regular eight hour a day job. Most people take for granted all the time and effort spent in try ing to bring us events which most everyone will enjoy.Lee Ellis is another man behind the scenes, Lee obtains gym’s, fields, courts and other athletic facilities which seem to appear out of thin air. All of us would like to thank both Joe and Lee for providing us with such good times. by Frank A. Irizarry December 6 , 1979 ended post season and regular season floor hockey. In an all out cham pionship game, the 8-0 Canadians beat Bob Springer and his team 8-3 for the final championship match up. From the start of the game both teams played hard hit ting hockey. Going into half-time, the Canadians led by only one goal. It wasn’t until the last ten minutes of game-time that the winners opened up an explosive offense by Pete VanPatten. Both defenses managed to control the puck for most of the game. In the end it was clearly seen that both teams started to tire, which might have been the key factor to the final outcome. Congratulations to a perfect season, Canadians. Photo B y Gail Massaro Bloodmobile Visits: Utica Chapter YW CA Womens Resource Center Open...
