March 1978 Paper Sun Monthly Meeting College Association Monthly Meeting: DWW The monthly meeting of the Board of Directors of the College Association took place on Friday, February 24, at 8:30 a.m., in the conference room of the Vice President for Academic Affairs, Dr. “Q ” . Following a review of the monthly statement for January, the Board discussed a number of the Student’s concerns, as voiced by the URSAG President. The first issue was the interest that should have been received by the URSA budget if the floating funds were in their deposit. Dr. “Q” requested a study of what interest may be rightfully that of URSA, and make any adjustments that are necessary. The second issue of concern was a pledge Of $1000 by the Class of ’76, to the College Foundation, and never received by that Foundation. I have contacted former URSA President Joe Eberle to ask if he was aware of this pledge being honored, and it was his belief that the funds should or did come from the budget of the 1976-77 budget. A check by the bookkeeper fails to produce any such deposit to the Foundation. J. Eberle advised me that there were funds in the budget of last year to cover the pledge, and to the best of my knowledge we may be paying the pledge at the end of this current year. The third issue presented by myself was the disposition of the copy machine in the library. Dr. “Q” again recommended a proper study in the areas of the most feasible resolution through the Office of Purchasing. What is being seeked is a better copy machine with no additional expense to the students. The problems of the copy machine at the Rome facilities was also an issue of discussion. The same day will present the Forum in the MPR at which the candidates will present them selves to express their goals, a brief history of themselves and respond to any questions the students might care to ask of them. If you are not interested in being a candidate, at least support those concerned students who are seeking positions in your govern ment. The latest new member of the URSAG Senate is D4n Maxwell a Criminal Justice major and also a candidate for Vice-president. Wel come to URSAG, Dan. It was encouraging to see five candidates competing for one vacancy. ,1 sincerely hope that this display of involvement is in evidence in the coming elections. The question arose as to the time for the Pub to commence daily operations. It has been presented to the Senate that the Pub open at noon till 2:00 p.m. and then again open at its regular hours at 4:00. Some others feel that the hours should remain in the same. What are your feelings? Address your thoughts to your Senators. They should shortly be contacting you through your mail folders. In reference to the last edition of this paper and my article pretaining to “pot” on campus, first permit me to qualify one point. I am not sleeping with the Security Department! The second issue on the lawyer. My apologies!! He will listen and will ADVISE you, but WILL NOT REPRE SENT YOU WITHOUT' A FEE! The point I was attempting to get across was the Student Activity Fees are not to be used as support in your defense. As for a response to the comments which accompanied my article, I refuse to use a student sponsored newspaper as a battle field in any exchanges of frustra tions, or misiniterpretations! The activity fee refunds are on the way to those students qualifying and this should remind all students that a deadline for application for the refund is the 21th of April. My and your faithful Treasurer Judy Roth advises me that all club and board budgets have been submitted. The budget should be ready for the new officers to approve or reject shortly after they assume their new offices. A final reminder that the Forum will be held on Thursday, March, 16th in the Multi-Purpose Room, the primary, if needed, to be held on March 20 and 21st. The General Elections to be held on April 10 and 11. The vacancies will be the URSAG President, Vice-presi- ' dent, Treasurer, Senior Senators (5) Recording Secretary, Student Activities Board Coordinator, Del egate to the College Council, (non-voting member), and 5 delegates to the College As sembly. The Campus Life Committee has been meeting quite regularly to take a closer look at the problems on campus. Some issues of concern were the parkign lot, the possibil ity of having a pay phone installed in Building #1, how to prevent thefts on campus, (the HBO in the STudent Lounge being one such item), arid some problems with the famous “Yellow Door” in the Center. In refrence to a cultural program on campus, in addition to the Student Program, it was presented through a Resolution of the Campus Life Committee that “Resolved that the offices of the Vice President for Adademic Affairs and the Vice President for Student Affairs each contribute Five Hundred Dollars ($500.00) to a cultural affairs program to be under the auspices of the Campus Life Committee. There has been no outcome on the Resolution to date. President K., Goes on Six: Dr. William R. Kunsela began his sixth year as president, and celebrated this even with an eveing with guests from the Administrative Council, the Col lege Council and local and State deinataries. Among the guests w ere James Donovan State Senator; Nicholas Calbgero, Assemblyman Emlyn Griffith, ] State Regent; and several mem bers of the college community wishing the President many more successful years. A toast to the Dr. was presented by Mr. Milton Smtih, our Public Relations leader, who also present ed Dr. K. with a cleverly designed collecton of photos commerating his years as leader. Sadly enough, the picture of Dr. K. receiving the 1 pie in the face was not among them. One late comer to the festivities was Dr. “Q” who spent the better part of the day moving into his new residence iff New Hartford. Best wishes to Dr. and Mrs. “Q” in their new home. V -/ Recommendation By Bill “Waz” Przylucki Just a short letter about the upcoming elections. We have the to-be vacated seats of President, Vice-president, Treasurer, etc.; and naturally we have the candidates ready and willing to fill these positions. Now we come to ability. I’d like to take this opportunity to put my support behind two of the potentials in particular that I firmly believe possess ability and desire. Gary Cuda (Presidential candi date) and Dan Maxwell (Vice-pres idential candidate) are my topics of discussion. Both are presently members of URSA GOVERN- MENT as senators. Both are actively involved in many of the clubs and organizations on campus. Both want to break the existing dicotemy between gov ernment and students by return ing the government to us. Neither believe in an intimidating, authori tarian, figurehead as a feasible alternative encouraging student involvement. Neither believes in working alone to strengthen our college. Cuda and Maxwell aren’t run ning together as a ticket. However, they do have somewhat parallel and complimentary plat forms that add up to a dynamic idealistic slate. Yet, they have two violently different personalities and admittingly they will make some mistakes. But these mistakes will come out of a hard work effort because only no work produces no mistakes. I believe that1 URSA govern ment is ready to return the word “student\ to our association. Cuda and Maxwell are not perfect but are perfectionists. That implies hard work and loads of effort. I am convinced that they guys are of the substance that produces good leaders. Enough!
