There Has To Be A Morning After Another form of birth control in the male is the vasectomy. Over 3 million men have had vasectomies. Reasons why men undergo these vasec tomies are the desire for conception free, mess-free, fumble free sex. Disen chantment with the pill (and its side effects). Demand by women that men shoulder more of the responsibility of contraception. Crusade for zero population growth among certain sections of the world. And the rising cost of raising children. Vasectomies cost from $150 to $400 by a private physician, less at birth control clinics. While vasectomies have been reversed in some cases, doctors generally agree that vasectomies should be thought of as permanent. The restoration operation, while not guaranteed, costs $2,000. The ultimate success rate, counted in pregnancies is about one in every 4 or 5. Birth control, as it exists today is an event that must be practiced daily. More con venient methods, especially applicable in areas or coun tries where conventional medical care is not readily available does exist. Plastic material impregnated with a contraceptive is implanted under the skin, or it can be fashioned into a ring that is inserted into the vagina. The vaginal rings are worn for approximately one month and are then removed so that menstruation can occur. The Upjohn Company has been testing a long active injectable progestogen called Depo- Provera in Europe. A single intramuscular injection can provide contraceptive action for three months. Birth control in the “ Brave new World” may follow along these lines: (1) Contraception by brain hormone manipulation. This would be achieved by somehow stopping hormone release, this would then inhibit conception. (2) Immunization; it may be possible to immunize a woman against some element present in her own ovaries and eggs, in the implanting embryo or in the man’s sperm, thus preventing pregnancy from occurring. (3) Bio- Engineering; this would be the physical insertion of valves in males which could be “ swit ched” on or off. (4) Oral contraceptives for men. (5) Sterilization; while this is in existence today, it is essen tially irreversible and requires surgery (minor in the male, and somewhat more serious in the female). As one can see, birth control is varied and takes on many methods. However, one method that is 100 per cent effective is abstinence. This method though, is listed second Seven major points to consider before using the morning after Dill are: (1) DES has not been proven 100 per cent effective in preventing pregnancy. (2) DES has been found to cause cancer in the female children of women who have taken it. (3) Your doctor should determine as nearly as possible whether you are already pregnant (prior to the intercourse for which the pill would be taken. (4) If you have ever had breast or genital cancer, you should not use this drug. (5) If there is a history of breast or genital cancer in your family, the risk to you is in creased. (6) Your risk is probably higher if you have been exposed to other estrogens, such as birth control pills. (7) DES should not be used as a routine form of birth control. If you have taken it once, do not take it again. Other forms of female contraceptives that are not as effective as the previous methods mentioned are: Vaginal foams, creams, and jellies. All are inserted in the vagina just prior to sex, chemical ingredients kills the sperm, all of them you hope. Vaginal foaming tablets are spermicidal tablets which must be dunked in water just prior to vaginal insertion. They fizz up like a bromide once inserted. If they don’t, you may find yourself with a morning after hangover. Vaginal suppositories are waxy spermicidal objects inserted like a tablet. The rhythm method is questionable at best. One might be encouraged to consult an astrologer for best results. Some interesting in formation recently uncovered might lead us to an answer as to why the rhythm method doesn’t work well in humans. Researchers at the University of Texas have found that in rats, sexual intercourse itself may stimulate ovulation at any time. In the rat, the resear chers believe that the in tercourse induced ovulation may be a “ backup” system to prolong the reproduction life of aging animals whose natural cycle is becoming irregular. While these researchers are hesitant to attribute this same phenomenon in humans, it does raise a plausible explanation. Methods that have no effect on birth control are: Douching, homemade condoms, sex in different positions, feminine hygiene products, and not having an orgasm. This article has mainly been concerned with birth control from the females point of view; birth control is not a one way street. The main difficulty from the male point is that no oral contraceptives are now existent. Research into this area has been explored. When hormones, usually an estrogen is used, side effects such as a IN THE OUT DOOR By GEORGE L. WALTERS only to death in popularity; and decrease in sexual desire and deaths position is slowly being actual impotence has been usurped. observed. Condoms have been improved by the use of newer, thinner plastics that do not diminish sexual pleasure as much as the older ones. They are also being produced in bright new color patterns in an attempt to make them more pleasing esthetically. This is not a sequel to “ Up the Down Staircase” , although one can never tell what new and illuminating ideas will be thought up next. What the title IN OUT fiasco can be logically explained if you sit down and think about it. Unfortunately, people do not sit down and philosophize about the intrinsic implies is that when the IN and values of door interpretation. If the OUT signs were stenciled on the fire doors in building four, all that was accomplished was complete havoc. You see, when you have IN stenciled on one side of a door, and OUT stenciled on the other side of the same door, one major outcome is bound to occur. When person “ A ” goes in the IN door, and person “ B” goes out the OUT door, and they both do this event simultaneously, you then very I had an advanced degree I might think along these lines: “ What goes in, must come out” . Therefore, when I go in the IN door, anyone with the slightest intelligence knows that I will be coming out the IN door. Conversely, “ that which finally comes out, must have first gone in” . Therefore, I must have gone in the OUT door. I hope that all the above INs and OUTs were confusing to mathematically get the result read, because it sure was “ AB” . This result usually ends confusing to write. What all up as lawsuit “ C” . Ideally, you should have persons passing one another as they enter or egress, not crashing head long into one another. this means is that people (even academicians, although they won’t admit it) use their common sense. People go INTO buildings, not into doors. I am afraid that academeia People come OUT of buildings, has been caught with its slip not out of doors. I have yet to showing. I say this because the see anyone physically or mystically come out of a door. You open a door, walk through the space the door had previously occupied, and hope that someone does not smash into you during that complex process. Possible solutions to this problem is to label both sides of a door OUT or IN. A second method would be to stencil enter on the right side door going into the building, and stencil exit on the right side door coming out of the building. If we do not want to abandon our high academic standings completely we could install a revolving door, or institute an electric eye or pressure plate system of automatically opening the door. In any event, I hope that future “ improvements” to this college will not further en danger the already precarious existence of all who dare enter or exit building four.
