WHO’S ON FIRST STUDENT GOVERNMENT This announcement is to herald the coming of a special Student Action Column to be authored by Tom Libous, president of the Utica Rome Student Association. In the next issue of the “ Paper Sun” , Tom will endeavor to explain and answer important questions dealing with students in general. It is felt that there is an important link between the students and their elected representatives that is missing. U.R.S.A., with the help of the “ Paper Sun” staff will try to heal this uncalled-for rift. If anyone has any problems or questions you can get in con tact with a representative of U.R.S.A. by dropping a question in the suggestion box located in the student lounge, or simply stop by the U.R.S.A. - office on the second floor of building four. POLICY The purpose of this newspaper is to report the news of the collegiate scene truthfully. To communicate ideas on a medium that is of common access to all is our intention. Under no cir cumstances will this publication be used as a per sonal vendetta. All material submitted to this paper will be examined by the Editorial Board. We reserve the right to edit in order to protect the rights of all concerned. During a time of collegiate political election this paper will offer equal space to all candidates. A policy of neutrality will be upheld regarding candidates. This paper is staffed by students. It is the voice of the students. I would like to see some more confidence placed in our Student Government. These individuals have been elected to office by the majority of the student body. Recent developments seem to have given birth to a feeling of student unrest. Accompanying this unrest is a sense of irritability and lack of struc tured leadership. I firmly believe that we as a majority of the student body should give our Student Government a chance to in vestigate and report on any problems or grievances which might arise. The Student Government is a link between the administration and the individual student. It is a link that when used properly can be very powerful. The Student Government is elected, not appointed. When elections roll around, and if you feel a specific individual is not doing his or her job, vote that individual out of office! Nothing can be accomplished without a structured approach. This recent upsurge of well intentioned, but random in dividual concern will not get us anywhere. We have a Student Government, Let’s use it. GEORGE L. WALTERS Editor in Chief : The situation at Utica-Rome has improved since last month. People are buckling down. Clubs have started. Many people have gotten it together. Yet one problem remains. We’ve done more in less than one year than most schools accomplish in two. The one area that lacks student in volvement is the Student Association Meetings. For the past month, twenty people have attended their open meetings. It’s always been the same few individuals. Where are the rest of you? A common fact remains. The only place to solve school problems is at those meetings. There is a great deal which needs be done. Your at tendance would be ap preciated. After all, not everybody is given the op portunity to aid in the building of a pyramid.
