The audience is guaranteed a good It’s Parents Weekend this Friday and Saturday and Utica Tech is pre paring a full and exciting weekend for the students and their family. This year the weekend is differ ent from previous years. The goal for this weekend is to create an event for the whole family to enjoy. Jamie Jaquert, from the Student Activities Office, said that the Uni versity wanted to change the tradi tional Parent’s Weekend. The com mittee is trying to make a event for the nontraditional students. “ Most of our students are over 25,” said Jaquert “ We want to create a weekend for them rather than the traditional 1823 year old students with two parents. The weekend is to le t the o t h e r s t u d e n t s brin g their wives, children and in some cases grandchildren to see the campus.” SUNY Jazz will start out the show with Ronnie Ron. On Saturday the resident stu dents and their siblings are invited to the Residence Hall Lounge for car toons and breakfast sponsored by the Residence Hall Council. T h e Presidents* B r u n c h in the Campus Center Gymnasium starts at 10:00. Dr. Peter Cayaa President of the Institute will welcome the stu dents and give a short history of the college, said Rose Mazzei. “ There is an incredible menu of food,” said JaquerL “ The students will be shocked. It will be the best brunch.” After the brunch wagon rides touring the campus will be boarding o u tsid e the C am p u s C e nter. T he wagon will follow a trail around the campus. The rides last approxi mately 15-20 minutes. Roctoberfest Recap On October 1, the 4th annual Roctoberfest kicked off with an excellent comedian. Richie Minervini excited the audience with comedy and audience participation. The Campus Center was filled with laughter and almost filled to capacity with students, faculty and guests. It was nice to see a good turnout for a function .that didn’t have alcohol present This shows that you can have just as much fun without being intoxi cated. On Friday October 2, the Roctoberfest continued with more activities planned for the day and evening. First the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM) sold hot chocolate and doughnuts to everyone that visited the soccer field. Sources tell me though that SHRM had to eat a lot of the cost because of the nice weather that we had that day. The Outdoor Club held a fun run that went around campus. Bruce Kingsbury told me that there was very little participation in the run. Maybe next year more people will partici pate. The Society of Manufacturing Engineers, Association of Mechani cal Engineers, along with the help from a Boy Scout troop out of Little Falls sponsored a dunking booth. The weather was beautiful, but the water was cold and the wind factor made everyone in the dunk tank shiver. Rob Verzera, Pam Curtis, Ralph Bottini, Charles Zino. Amy Friedell, and J.T. were some of the brave student volunteers to bear the cold ness and help raise money. Some SUNY staff also helped generate some good money, they are: Director of Personnel - Tony Panebianco, Director of Food Service - Jeff Moeyer, and Acting Dean of Students - Roger Sullivan. For those inter ested Tony was the biggest money maker. Ralph would like to send thanks and appreciation to all those that made the event a success. While these events were taking pl^ce, the Wildcats were taking on SUNY Geneseo in soccer. The Wild cats played their hearts out for 90 minutes, but came up on the short end of the field losing 6 - 0 . The soccer team is still in the learning stages as a young team and will im prove their quality of play with each new game and challenge. Let’s get together as a whole and wish them the best of luck the rest of the year. The festivities continued at the 12 North Sports Bar. Judy the head bartender tells me that the facility has been closed, but will always honor SUNY Techs parties. The party continued having Bobby Gold as “ Simon Sez” . Bobby was offering a $100 bill to anyone that could last more than a minute in the game of Simon Sez against him. Bobby hand picked approximately 20 students that would have a chance to go for the $100. Mike Colton was his first victim. Bobby told him that because he got out so early that he would allow Mike 10 chances to stay in the game. As the game progressed and people were getting scarce on stage, Mike had 6 or 7 strikes against him. The final three people were left. Bobby told Mike that the 10 chances -continued on page 2
