Alumni Council Alumni Association More than a Student Activity By Ed Muldowney What exactly is the Student Alumni Council, SAC for short? What does it do for me? How can I get involved? Many students are unaware that we have an alumni organization, and that through the Student Alumni Council current students can participate in most alumni activities. SAC was implemented to help students become familiar with the alumni program so upon graduation they can become active alumni members. SAC also is a direct link to alumni resources, that can be used to improve campus life. Membership in the Student Alumni Council •will: (1) develop leadership skills, (2) build a professional, network, (3) allow involvement in campus projects, (4) give older students contact with their already graduated peers, (5) allow participation in many alumni programs. Such projects as the \Study Buddy\ program at exam time, mixers with alumni, and career development programs have been implemented or planned to help students both before and after graduation. \Study Buddies\ are packages put together by SAC that contain munchies, pudding, soda, and other goodies along with a \good luck\ note from parents or friends to help the student get through exam week. Being a student host at Alumni Weekend allows for extensive social and professional networking that may well pay off when entering the work force. SAC is currently planning an alumni speaker program to bring alumni from various fields back to campus to share their experiences with students interested in their profession or company. SAC is a growing organization. New ideas and projects are welcome. New members are encouraged to develop and organize programs that will enhance the student or alumni experience. Returning students can contact Amy Gush, the Alumni Affairs Director, at X 7110 or X 7113, or come by the College Relations Office in Kunsela Hall and find out more about membership in the Student Alumni Council. Membership .... A Lifetime Privilege by Amy D. Gush, Director for Alumni Affairs Graduation is only a few weeks away. Every commencement creates a new group of alumni. As your days on campus conclude, your SUNY Tech alumni experience begins. As an alum you become eligible for membership in the SUNY Tech Alumni Association. This organization of over 9,000 potential members can be a powerful social and professional network. SUNY Tech has alumni throughout the nation. True, the majority of our graduates stay in Central New York, but nearly every state has our alumni living in it. The Alumni Association works to keep its members informed about developments in their fields, changes at SUNY Tech, professional development opportunities, and probably the most important item -- details of the changes in their friends' lives. The Alumni Association provides a social network which allows for opportunities to return to campus to \party\ on alumni weekends. The Association regularly publishes an alumni directory to help alumni keep up with the addresses of classmates. Academic support is undertaken by the Alumni Association through such projects as the alumni-sponsored admissions recruiting reception at Dutchess Community College. The Alumni Association supports scholarships and academic pursuits by contributing both time and money to the annual Foundation Phonathon. When you graduate, membership in the Alumni Association costs only $10 a year. The benefits of networking, fun, and special opportunties far outweigh the cost. If you are a returning student, next year you may want to consider a membership in the Student Alumni Council. As a member you ca,n enjoy active alumni association membership privileges while still in school.
