Jfartonj ©imps Open Forum! An Open Forum was held on April 23, 1991 in the Campus Center dining hall. This was the students' opportunity to ask any questions pertaining to the school. The following are the topics that were covered and a brief synopsis of the statements made. A complete report will be made available in the Presidents office some time in the future. Shuttle Bus: The shuttle bus is being cut from SUNY Tech in August. One alternative suggested was the use of a college van to shuttle students to and from the city. John Falcone stated that \It currently costs $26 per person one way on Sundays and $9 per person on nights after 6:30 pm. The yearly total is between $15,000 - $20,000.\ John felt that this was an exorbitant amount. However, how much would it cost to operate a van for a year? Certainly, it wouldn't be free. President Cayan was in support of cutting the shuttle bus while Joe Ruggerio suggested a three-way split to pay for it through URSA, College Association, and the operating budget. Tuition: Bruce Granger asked about the $150 tuition increase as well as the possible $500 increase starting next academic year. Also, are there any new fees for next semester? The college is preparing to request a mandatory student health fee of $40 - $45 / year for full time students. It would provide additional nursing care, doctors (including specialists), and possibly, subsidy for lab tests. The Orientation fee has been increased tg $45 (one time fee for 1st semester new students) Expanded nurse care so the fee would be increased to cover lab tests. A new mandatory fee is being implemented. It is the Orientation Fee and would only effect those students transferring from part-time to full time enrollment as well as new students. Child Care: Dean Keymer gave an update on the child care survey that was taken last semester. Of all students on campus only about 60 expressed concern. A follow up questionnaire was sent out this semester to the sixty people asking the exact same questions as the previous semester and no one responded. Notices were placed in the Snow Flake and still no one responded. This survey will be conducted again in the fall. Clock Tower: The idea was started approximately 7 years ago. It will in no way affect the operating budget. All monies for the clock tower would be donated. The cost would be between The class of 1984 donated $10,000 for the carillon. The 1985 class donated $9,000 to develop the plaza in which the clock tower would stand. \The cost would be about $240,000\ said President Cayan. Speaker for Commencement: The speaker for commencement will be Fred Diamond. He is a Nationally recognized Scientist. He is also the Chief Scientist at Rome Air Base as well as a member of the college council. Alcohol License: Concern was expressed about the possible revocation of the liquor license. John Falcone asked that \All students under 21, please don't drink in the Cats Den. The employees of the Cat's Den will have to proof all people.\ The members of the Board of Directors for the College Association can be held directly liable if someone were to drink and than get into an accident. If people become irresponsible in regard to drinking in the Cats Den, the privilege will be revoked. If a person has had to much to drink they may leave their car on campus rather than drive home. Dining Hall: The dining hall in the Campus Center will be restricted to resident hall students only. Commuters, faculty, and staff will be able to use the cafeteria on a pay per admit basis. The cafeteria in Kunsela Hall will be activated on a pay per item basis. The Kunsela Cart will be placed in the Ast building. A second continued on pg# xii
