We have added new staff members, additional medications and lab tests to help meet your health care needs. STAFF MEMBERS Deborah Southwick, R.N., M.S.N., F.N.P., started November 21,1991. Debby will work for ten months (September-June) as a Nurse Practitioner in the Health Center. She will be available full time to evaluate, diagnose, treat and prescribe for routine health problems. Debby has an extensive background in nursing. She has worked in intensive care, coronary care as a Registered Nurse. Her experience as a Nurse Practitioner included working at Hamilton College Health Center and with a local internal medicine special ist at Slocum Dickson. Most recently, Debby was the Nurse Practitioner in Slocum Dickson’s Urgent Care department. Sally Robilotto, S.S., M.S., started November 4, 1991. Sally will work for ten months (August- May) as a Health Educator in the Health Center. She will be available half-time to plan and implement health programs. Sally has held a variety of positions including teaching junior high, high school and college health, as well as managing her own business. Prior to accepting the Health Educator position, Sally was an education specialist at the Massachusetts State Department of Education. Marisa Greer, Keyboard specialist, started August 26,1991. Marisa will work half-time for ten months (August-May). She will be responsible for various secretarial duties in the Health Center. Marisa has worked at the college for 16 years with assignments in the Placement Office and the Information Services department. The physicians are Family Practitioners from the St. Elizabeth Family Practice Residency Program. They will continue to be available on Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday afternoons. Students who wish to see a physician should call for an appoint ment. Consultant services are being developed, our goal is to have consultants available to see students in the four major categories of need : ENT/Allergy, Gynecology, Dermatology, and Orthopedics. LABORATORY TESTS Laboratory testing includes mono tests, rapid strep tests, urine cultures, gonorrhea cultures, pregnancy tests and hematocrits. (The availability of these in-office tests may change due to pending Federal regulations.) This year, as a result of the Health Fee, several tests through Roche Clinical Laboratories are free o f charge for students. They include Diagnostic Multichem Profile (30 tests), CBC with Differential and Platelets, Glucose. Bilirubin total and direct, Iron and Iron binding capacity, Sedimentation Rate, Syphilis, and a Urinalysis with microscopic. MEDICATIONS The Health Center stocks many prescription and non- prescription medications. Additional medications are being ordered. The goal for medications is to upgrade our formulary to include some medications for most routine illnesses, sample medications are available and are given to any student who needs them. Current medications are as follows: Analgesics: Bufferin, Acetominophen, Ibuprofen Antacids: Neutralin (non-aluminum) Gaviscon Antianxiety: Hydroxyzine HCL Antibiotics: Amoxicillin 250 mg. Ampicillin 250 mg. Cephelexin 250 mg. Dicloxaoillin 250 mg. Doxycycline 100 mg. Erythromycin 333 mg. Penicillin VK 250 mg. Tetracycline 250 mg. Sulfamethoxazole 800 mg with Trimethoprim 160 mg. Anti-Diarrhea: Kaopectate Anti-emetic-tic: Compazine suppository Tigan IM (lOOmg/cc) Anti-inflammatory: Indomethacin 25 mg. Anti-histamine : Diphenhydramine hydrochlo ride 25 mg. Meclizine hydrochloride 12.5 mg. Decongestant: Trintex LA (phenylpropanolamine HC 175 mg./guaifenesin 400 mg.) Creams & Lotions: 2% otic solution sulfactamide Sodium 10% ophthalmic solution Vosol otic solution Triple antibiotic ointment Erythromycin topical solution 2% Tri-thalmic ophthalmic ointment Tinactin 1% Nystatin/ Triamcinolone Calohist Povidone iodine cream Cerumen softener ear drops Hydrocortisone 1%&2.5% Fluocinonide 0.05% URSA Dear Students, I would like to welcome you to the SUNY Institute of Technology at Utica/ Rome. Also, I am pleased to welcome you as a member of the Utica Rome Student Association (URSA). URSA is an association that encom passes every student on this campus. There are many clubs and organizations that are sponsored by URSA. For example, WCOT (radio station), FACTORY TIMES (news paper), GENESIS (year book), SAB (Stu dent Activities board), SNOWFLAKE (daily news bulletin), and there are sixteen other clubs. I encourage you to participate in at least one club. It is a chance for you to meet other students, and it helps you develop a skill that is demanded in the work world, —leadership. URSA also has a government that is run by the students. The URSA government act as a liaison between the administration and the students. Its main goals are to protect the rights of all students, govern over the activities of its organizations, and promote the general welfare of the associa tion.
