Y., FRIDAY, JULY 29, 1938 PRICE TWO CENTS Diving Contests at Williams Lake National Champion ships August 6 The Junior National three meter diving championships for men will be held on Saturday, August 6th, at Williams Lake, Rosendale, Ulster coun ty. This event, one of the most color ful on the Amateur Athletic Union program, is being sponsored this year by the Adirondack Association of the A. A. U., which alloted it to the WilUams Lake Athletic' Club, which is_ the southernmost swimming club in the mountain district. For the past two years, this event has been held m Washington, D. C., and drew a smart field of entries of the nation ’ s best coming divers. Due to the proximity oof WilUams Lake to the metropolitan section, a record field of entries is expected this year. William M. Leonard, of Schenec tady, president of the Adirondack Association, of the A. A. U., will ref eree ' the contest and the judges he selects will assure a well conducted tournament. Mrs. Connell was the chair lady and it seems that everything worked out just fine. Feasel and his \echo\ called the number so the 150 play ers could win the prizes. And what prizes they were! Every thing from food baskets to tea kettles. We sincerely hope that the ladies rv.n another of their fine parties in the near future. I„ Miss Dorothea Lane of Jackson GRANGE MEETING The regular meeting of the Ros endale Grange 1501 was held Mon day at their Grange Hall in Ros- dale, N. Y. During the meeting Mrs. Chas. Hastorouek was presented with two beautiful ferns for her new home which is the historic Hasbrouck Homestead in Stone Ridge. When presenting the ferns, Master Mollenhauer said this was a gift from the various members of the Rosendale Grange to Mrs. Hasbrouck for the many services rendered in the past at the Lec- tura Hours and entertainments and he said he thought the ferns an appropriate gift for her new home. Mrs. Hasbrouck was taken by surprise but she thanked the Master and Grange for the pres- «nt and good wishes in her new home. Due to the Ulster County Fair which will be held on August 24 a motion was made and carried that the next regular meeting of the Grange be held on Monday, August 15 instead of August 22. Grange, members please -note* the change of meeting. This was done so those working on the booths at the fair could give their whole at tention to their work and have the 'booths completed by the open ing of the fair. Last year there was quite, a delay. The Lecture Hour follows: as usual Lecturer Mrs. E. Kennedy did not disappoint the members. Mrs. K. Kramer lead the group with the song; story in song. Many alterations are be ing made and all new electric equipment is being installed. The reason is the opening of a new up- to-date restaurant and cafe. The opening will be announced short ly and it will be managed by Ml'. Wingate of New York. The electrical work is being done by J. J. Money and we un derstand the new cafe and restau rant will be a swell affair. ------------ O ------------ Stone Ridge Grange Will Hold Dance Heights, L. Refreshments were served. - --------- 0 ----------- Dance at High Falls Many attended the dance spon sored by the Guild of St. John ’ s Episcopal Church which was held at High Falls Firemen ’ s Hall on The dance held by the Stone Ridge Grange at their Grange Hall on July 22 was such a success that the committee has been request ed to hold another one. This request dance, sponsored by the Stone Ridge Grange will be held on Friday, August 12, at the Grange Hall in Stone Ridge. Fair at Cottekill The Ladies ’ Aid of the Reform ed Church held thedr 'annual fair last Thursday afternoon and eve ning on the school grounds. Many beautiful fancy articles were on display. There was ice cream, cake, soft drinks and hot dogs and rolls for sale. The affair was pronounced a success. ------------ O ------------ To Hold Card Party MAPLE mix The Maple Hill P. T. Sullivan; Dis trict No. 3, Fred 'and Mrs. Pal- matier, and Henry Mollenhauer. -T ---- -------0 ---------- — Falls Down Stairs Miss Ross met with an accident at her home in - LeFever Falls last Sunday. She was about ito descend to the^ lower fioor when she tripped and fell head first down the whole flight of stairs. As she reached the bottom, to avoid hitting an iron hat rack, she grabbed a chair which happened to foe standing there, thus avoiding a serious in jury. When Miss Ross was able to rise she phoned to Mrs. MeNamra of Kingston (a friends of Miss Ross ’ ). Mrs. McNamara and her daugh ter, Helen, stay with Miss Ross un til Monday. Mrs. Rose Furrell of New Hav- 'an, Conn., is now staying with Miss Ross. ------------ O ------------ Birthday Party A party was given to Mrs. Anna Forth Thursday afternoon in hon or of her birthday. Among those present were Mrs. Mongold of Nova Scotia, Mr. and Mrs. Gil bert and daughters of Flatbush, Mrs. Bums and Miss Bums of Elmhurst, L. I., Mr. and Mrs. Fusco and daughter,- Mrs. Kunz, Mr. and Mrs. Loidl, Mrs. Weber, Mr, ‘ and Mrs. Lane and daughter. Refreshments were served and a good time had by all. ------------ O ------------ Social Party Is A Success The Social Party which was held at St. Peter ’ s Hall in Rosendale last night was pronounced a suc cess both financially and socially. This party was for -the benefit of St. Patrick ’ s Church in Whiteport. A great many of out of town peo ple were in attendance and a very enjoyable evening was had by all. Odd Fellows Rent Grange Hall On Monday,' July 25, the com mittees and trustees of the Odd Fellows Lodge and the Master and trustees of the Rosendale-.Grange met at the Grange Hall and drew up the final papers and lease for the rental of the upper floor of the Grange Hall. ■ 1 . Boarding - House beat Lange ’ s LeFever Falls Mansion by the score of 8-5, that Is at the end of the 5th inning the ball was-lost? But was later in the evening re turned. The; stake was' a new soft ball which was given to Daley ’ s Board- IngHouse, Over 100 peoplfe gathered at the field to see the game and enjoy the fun and there was lots of that. Refreshments' served ' were beer and pretzlels and was donated by both teams. ' • '' ' After the game the mugs wore counted and one was missing and as one of the players mentioned, it wasn't a ball-player, either. . ------------ O ------------ Legionnairs at Herman ’ s Grove Many of . the local Legionnaires who are members of the Kingston Post of the • American Legion will attend the clam bake which will be held at Herman's Grove at Ma ple Hill on the Kingston-Roscn- dale Road (Route *32). Leggionnaire Jacob Camp, chair man of the arrangements com- mitee reports that all necessary details involved have been taken care of. Not only will there be an abundance of food to satiate the most ravenous appeties, said Le gionnaire Oamp, but an essential balance of liquid will be supplied to keep the devoured clams in their element. The Legion is inviting the pub lic for a day of.fun. Rain will not deter /hy of • the special events planned for,' since . the' clambake .will be held'..indoors in case of rain. The clambake will positive ly be held at Herman ’ s Grove on the-Kingston-Rosendale Road on Sunday, July 31, regardless of weather conditions. ------------ O ------------ TILLSON Mrs. Nichols Ribis of New York is spending a month ’ s vacation at her bungalow here.
