Y. iWWWWWWVtVtVkVVIkVWVVSWkVt May we of the News inform you that Sunday, July 3rd, was a gala day for the Rosendale Ball Club. If you can recall, two weeks ago, the Kingston painters beat them 5-3 in a hard fought battle. Well, since then they quite definitely ironed out their major difficulties. So thorough was this \renovation ” if we may use that term, that they defeated the North Rondout A. C. 3-1. Let's turn back the calendar. The time: 2:30; the place: Maple Hill and the date: July 3rd. As pitcher Lillberg faces the first bat ter a strange hush falls over the field. Everybody is tense. The game has begun. The Rosendale twirler passes the first man, so when shortstop Leskle steps to the plate, we see second baseman Beridi on first. Leskie grounds to second for an easy out. But . . . Beridi has now gained second and it looks bad for Rosendale. Third baseman Didzik is the next man that the lad on the mound faces. He merely grounds to short for another easy out. Once again that man that is on base has advanc ed. He is perched on third and let ting everybody know about it. Poor Carl! Clean-up man Fischer steps to the plate meaning \Swede ” with his bat. Mr. Lillberg will positively not stand for Such action so he strikes out the man that could have come through. The first man to face Kamosa is right-fielder Mocko. He smacks the apple for a clean single. First baseman Connell follows him and very prettily duplicates his feat. He too raps out a bingle. \Slug ger ” Schmalucke is the next man up and it ’ s the old do or die spirit that prevails. Well . . . Ed really “ did” . He \whiffed ” . Clean up man “Duff ” belts the old pill to center field and the darn fielder caught the ball. Connell stole second, Moc ko took third and then suddenly charged to score Rosendale. Mat Bence flied to second to retire the side. -Now elt ’ s jump to the fifth inn ing. (The second, third and fourth inning were a vertiable pitchers ’ duel). Augustine is batting. He hits to short, but an error lets him reach first safely. Pitcher Kamas- co grounded to the opposing hurl- er to be put out at first. Mean while Augustine has gained sec ond and then greedily takes third. Beridi once more comes to bat and gets on by another error. Augus tine makes a scramble for home and tallies for N. R. Leskie hits to Connell who makes an unassist ed out. The score now stands one and one. Kamaso wanted to keep the score low so he made Donnelly and Balfe “ fan ” . Carl takes his turn at bat but grounds to the pitcher thereby making the third out. -North Rondout did not do any thing in the first half of the sixth. Rosendale did do something in their half of the inning, however. They score another run. The score now stands 2-1. That is the way it ended. Incidently Kamaso had eleven strike-outs and the Ohioville “toss- er ” had ten. Both pitchers really pitched as best they knew how. Kamaso allowed six hits out of which two runs were scored. Lill- berg allowed three hits but their (N. R) tally was gotten because of an error. The Rosendale boys can really play ball and I think that they have proved it quite de finitely ! To the Wilbur Dodgers and manager we extend our congratu lations. Never before were the fel lows so anxious to play. Never be fore have they suffered such a “ dirty ” deal. The Wilbur Dodgers booked a game with the Rosendale A. C. and then forgot? to show up. I won der if they really forgot. Were they afraid to play the Rosendale lads? Why didn't they show up Monday afternoon??? We are, at present, unable to answer that question. Aw . . Nutz. (With salt if you like.) And that, kind readers, is the end of our Sports column for this week. So long and thanks very kindly.
