Y„ FRIDAY, JULY 8, 1938 PRICE TWO CENTS Rosendale Plays Host To Thousands of Visitors Holiday Crowd School Meetings Largest in Years The Decoration Day week-end was considered a good one, but the July 4th week-end brought back n f ot only all the old visitors but thousands of new ones who will sperjd their'vacation here. The crowd started coining Thusday and continued on. The Shot Line bussep were packed.: We believe they must have chartered all the busses, in the country to handl the crowd. Once again the / result of coop- .eratjon was , demonstrated in the area covered by the Rosendale Township Association. This area reported the biggest business ev er experienced and many of the houses were compelld to seek out- sid reservation for guests after their own places were filled. Williams Lake, one of the larg er places in the area, was filled to capacity and in addition thousands visited the lake, to witness the wa ter sports^ fireworks and dances v \ Among \h6 places ’ 'which ^re ported capacity crowds over the holidays ’ were Ziegler ’ s Mountain View House, Joe Hill ’ s hotel, Lange ’ s LeFevre Falls Mansion, Schroeder ’ s Mountain Lake resort, Paul Fisher ’ s Briar Wood Lodge, Schinnen ’ s Valley Inn, Old Home stead, Spindler ’ s Resort and Farm and Rudolph Oehri ’ s Alpine Lodge. In fact most all the places in the town were filled to capacity There was dancing at Joyce ’ s Tavern, ' Maple Hill, Whiteport Tavern, at Whitport; Jack Daley ’ s Well, Rosendale, Joe Hill ’ s Hotel, Rosendale and at Williams Lake, at Binnewater. ’ Town Board. Meeting There will be a regular meet ing of the. town board in the of fices of the town clerk on Main street this village, on Monday eve ning. — — — o — -------- Tillson Church The Ladies ’ Aid Society of the Tillson, Reformed Church will hold a Quilt Exhibit and Food Sale in the Church Hall, Saturday, July 16 opening at 2 P. M. A large assortment of quilt, both antique and modern will be on ex hibition and hand work of all kinds such as hand woven articles, em broidery, crocheting, etc. A very small admission will be charged. News Ads Get Results The Annual Meeting of the Ros endale Union Free School,. Dist. No. 1, of the Town of Rosendale, will be held next Tuesday, July 12 at 7:30 P. M. at the school house on Main street. This meeting will be for the transaction of such business as may properly come before the meeting and for the election of trustees. --------- — O ------------ Rosendale Township Enthusiastic Over New Enterprise All Rosendale Township turned out to visit the new 5 & 10 in Ros endale which formally opened last Friday. Great interest was shown on the part of all visitors in the sparkling, displays of new items which it will be to the convenience of Rosendale people in the future to buy in the 5 & 10. No woman who visited the old stand of the Stadleman Drug Store expecting to find a modern and shining store, was disappoint ed,.-In. fact.-nxclamations were .rife that this ’ store far surpassed any thing that has heretofore been seen, m towns this size. If enthus iasm and approval are forerun ners of success, this newest Ros endale enterprise is promised an interesting future. This new store is a definite contribution to our growing community. REMY AND PHOENICIA MEN TO HEAD FIREMEN The Ulster County Volunteer Firemen may hold their 1939 con vention in Phoenicia next year, making this choice at the conven tion which will be held in Ellen- ville July 15th and 16th, it was said by prominent members of the organization. Edward Moran, of Kingston, an ex-president appears to be in line for election as trustee for a term of five years, at the annual con vention of the Ulster County Vol unteer Firemen ’ s Association at Ellenville Friday and Saturday, July 15 and 16. So far as can be determined at this time Mr. Mo ran is unopposed in his candidacy for the office. First vice-president Philip Fisher, Sr., of St. Remy, will be elevated to the office of president and it is expected, ac cording to the present slate, that David Hillson of Phoenicia will succeed Mr. Fisher at first vice- president. Apparently the associa tion is well satisfied with the work of Frank Wynne who has been re cording secretary since its organ ization, and George Hammesfahr of Wallkill is likely to remain as secretary. Saturday — will Include another hike, ball game and hot dog roast. ------------ O ------------ Card Party A Success A great many people attended the card party held at the Grange Hall last Wednesday. The affair was sponsored by the Service and Hospitality Committee of the Grange, proceeds to be used to finish repairs on the Grange Hall dining room which was begun some time ago. Refreshments will be served after the games. ------------ O ------------ AROUND TOWN Bart Joyce has improved the parking space at the Joyce ’ s Tav ern at , Maple Hill. - ----------- O ------------ The swimming pool at the Mocko place is now open for the season. The pool is 60 ft. long and 36 ft. wide with a constant flow of fresh water. Rosendale 4-H Club The members of the Rosendale 4-H Club returned from their trip to Ithaca where they attended the 4-H Congress. Mrs. Harry Wesp and the girls were driven to Ithaca by Henry Myers of Rosendale. ------------ O ------------ Mremen ’ s Convention July 15 and 16 As the convention dates near, definite plans are now going for ward for what will probably be the longest firemen ’ s parade ever held in Ellenville. Approximately thirty-five companies have sent their acceptances and they will be accompanied by music, either drum crops or a band.. ■ It is thought there will be more than 2,500 hundred men in the line of march. The companies from the Town of Rosendale are as follows: Tillson Vol. Fire Dept., T/llson, 20 men in line, I piece apparatus. Active Hose Co., Rosendale, 25 in line, Hook and Ladder truck. Saint Remy Fire Dept., Saint Remy, 25 men in line, 1 piece ap paratus. Duffy and Alfred Trandle and many others. ------------ O ------------ Will Hold Social Party The Democratic Club of Rosen dale will hold their regular meet ing tonight, July 8, at their club rooms on Main street. After the meeting they will hold ROSENDALE Mr. and Mrs. Walter Hough of Hartsdale, N. Y., were guests of Mrs. Hough. Mr. and Mrs. Henry Ebtinger, Mrs. Sieble and grandson and other relatives were guests of Mr. and Mrs. Frank Conklin over the week-end. ------------ O ------------ TO ENTER STATE CONTEST Carol Fein, 13, of Rosendale, Ulster county spelling bee cham pion, will be one of the many spel lers who will compete at the New York State Fair in Syracuse. The fair will be held from August 29 to September 10. Miss Fein will represent Ulster county and will compete against the winners in the spelling bees held in the other counties in the state for the title of state champion. Cars Collide At Maple Hill Two cars, a Buick, driven by Peter Helmsley of New York and a Pontiac driven by Irving Myer of 76 Main street, Kingston, col lided at the junction of Route 32 and the old State Road at Maple Hill. Although there is a stop sign there, unless you stop close to the concrete you cannot'see cars com ing from the direction of Kingston. According to an eye witness, Mrs. Brakman, Mr. Helmsley came to a stop and as he started to cross over to Schmidt ’ s Gas ' Station, Myers, who was traveling south to Rosendale and who ■ said he was going only 40 miles an hour, ran into the Buick, ctaWllng upon the fender and locking both cars to gether Mr. Myei-s was on the right side of the road and claimed that Mr. Helmsley pulled out right in front of him. After State Trooper Reilly ar rived and had taken all the nec essary information, he asked both drivers if either one wanted to press charges. At first Myers want ed Helmsley arrested for careless driving but nothing was done. In the car with Myers was his wife, Sally. Both cars were Insured and no one was injured. Both cars drove away under their own power for the only dam- fgCydgne.yvas a h«di~ Tenaer on each car. ----- - — -- f ------------ o ------------ Take Motor Trip A very enjoyable motor trip to Lake Mbhonk was held July 4th. The party motored to Mountain Rest, then by wagon to the Picnic Lodge. In the afternoon the folks walked to Sky-Top, chatting with the Fire Warden. Mr. Reed was Captain of the party. Joseph Huseman, Jr., was very success ful in obtaining many beautiful snapshots. The party was as fol lows: Joseph Huseman and sons Joseph, Jr., and Richard; Mft and Mrs. Allen Hugel, Miss Dorothy Molloy, Mr. Jerry Molloy, Mr. and Mrs. Edward Murphy, all heigh- bors in Fiatbush. They all agreed that it was a very happy and In teresting trip and are planning this week-end to visit Lake Min- newaska. ------------ O ------------ Schryver in Motor Boat Accident Donald Schryver of the Schry ver Lumber Co., in Rosendale was discharged Tuesday from the Kingston Hospital where he was taken for treatment of injuries suffered in a motor boat accident over the holiday week-end. Ac cording to Dr. Kenneth LeFever who treated Mr. Schryver he re ceived ah abdominal Injury, but had not been injured seriously in- ternaly. He was hurt when the boat in which he was riding with two others, struck a submerged log in the Hudson River near Kingston Point. His companions reported no injuries.
