ROSENDALE, N. Y., FRIDAY, MAY 13, 1938 PRICE TWO CENT:; VOL. 1, NO. 11 Prominent Speakers Attend Breakfast First Communion Breakfast Held At St. Peters One of the Outstanding features of the Apple Blossom Festival was the Communion Breakfast held by the men of St. Peter ’ s Parish in Rosendale. This event will be re membered fro years to come by those who were there, and this statement is not exaggerated. The speakers (all of them) had some thing to say, and they said it. How often one goes to an affair of this kind and the speakers talk but don ’ t say anything. That is Why we say the breakfast, was differ ent. The entertainment and food were of the best also. The Holy Name Society, mem bers of the Men ’ s Club and their visiting friends attended the 8:00 o ’ clock mass and received com munion. After the mass the men marched over in a body to the hall to- have breakfast, which was pre pared and served by the ladies of the parish societies. The first speaker to be introduc ed by toastmaster William Delaney of Rosendal«-was Monsignor- Stanley of St. Mary ’ s Catholic Church in Kingston, who spoke on “ Motherhood ”: The Hon. There were two of the Village officials there and they were next introduced — Mayor Golden Lewis and Treasurer Clyde Lewis. John ’ Feasel was next present ed by the toastmaster. Mr. Feasel is the president of the Holy Name Society and at this time compli mented the men on the splendid showing made and urged all Cath olic men to join the Holy Name So ciety. Edward Conger of Poughkeepsie, His subject was “ Back to the Faith of Our Fath ers ” . Father McDonald then introduc ed Happy Harry Haden of New York City. Whoever pinned this name “ Happy ” on Mr. Haden, knew what he was about for when Hap py Harry walks in one door Gloom rushes out the other. For a half hour or more he had the crowd in an uproar with his funny stories, magic tricks and novelty numbers on the piano. Frank Maloney of New York City was next introduced. Mr. Ma loney has a wonderful voice and he favored his audience with three numbers, \Mother of Mine ” , “ Big Bass Voil” and “ Bedad How I Envy McGinty ” . The final speaker on the pro gram was the Rev. Father Schultz of St. Alphonsus in Esopus. He first spoke on “ Motherhood ” . He is a speaker who makes his very words sink into your soul. You could see by the expression on the men ’ s faces, those who had lost their mother and those who were still fortunate enough to have theirs, he gave them something to think about. Then he spoke on labor and the church. Mr. Maloney concluded the pro gram by singing “ Bless This House ” and then grace was said by Rev. William McDonald. Father McDonald then thanked all who had helped in any way to make this affair a success and ex pressed the hope that all present would attend the same occasions hereafter. There were 100 or more present at the breakfast. Mr. Lipgar of Kingston, took several pictures and will have proofs at the next meeting, Thurs day night.
