Meeting Very Interesting Movie Shown The regular meeting of the Ros endale Township Association was held ' Tuesday evening, March 15 at the Firemen ’ s Hall, Rosendale. The meeting was called to order by President O ’ Connor at approxi mately 8:15 P. M. with 200 peo ple in attendance. The minutes of the last regular meeting together with the minutes of the last two meetings of the Board of Directors, were read. There were no corrections to be made and so they were approved as read by Secretary Wm. Weisler. There followed a general dis cussion on topics of special inter est as brought out hi these*min utes- It was urged that those desiring advertising space in the 1938 \Vacationists Rendezvous ” booklet should apply as early as possible through the publicity committee. The matter of supervised fecrea- tidn. during the 'coming summer was explained \in detail and Mr. Walter Williams suggested that any local boy desiring the position of social director should make ap plication, to an officer or member of the Board of Directors of the Association immediately. Several applications were received and many more are expected within the next month. It was brought out that the pay ment of dues for the ensuing year is«in order and an early response would be appreciated. There was a favorable treasurer ’ s report giv en by Treasurer Ralph Dewey. The meeting was then turned over to Walter Williams who took charge of the literary program for the meeting. Mr. Williams introduced Dr. E, F. Galvin whom he said Would in turn explain the following enter tainment since he had been fully responsible for securing it. After receiving generous applause, Dr Galvin explained that the enter tainment would consist of a “ talk ing ” picture on the disease, syph ilis, and a second on the prevention of accidents in the home. Dr. Gal vin explained that these pictures were secured through the New York State Department of Public Health. Both pictures were ex tremely interesting and education al. At the conclusion of these pic tures, Dr. Galvin explained the necessity for the immediate care of spyhills by a competent phy sician. He further explained that it ' was very possible to have this dreaded venereal disease without the victims own knowledge of it. He further asked the cooperation of every person intending to mar ry. He stated that if all such per sons would submit themselves to what is known as the Wasserman if there was a syphiletic infec tion. In doing so many congenital cases might be prevented. Mr. Wiliams announced that a program of locale entertanment would be secured by hs commttee for the next meeting. After a brief word of thanks to Mr. Williams and Dr. Galvin by President O ’ Connor the meeting was adjourned. -O- H. BAXTER ELECTED Taxpayer ’ s Candidate Wins GRANGE MEETING Nine New Members The Rosendale Grange held its regular meeting Monday, March 14 at the Grange Hall in Rosen- dale. “ The program was conferring 1st and 2nd degrees to nine new members: Mrs. Jacob Freer, Mrs. Arthur Freer, Mrs. Hinkley, Mrs. Deitz, Mr. Kenneth Clark, Mr. Thomas Hughes, Mr. William Dib ble and Mrs. A. Goldwasser. There were a great many mem bers present i to-see the < new can- didats being initiated. Due to the fact that the degree team was in good form the members had plenty of laughs. The ladles degree team perform ed their duties In a fine manner and were applauded by the mem bers and also by the County De puty, Mr. Story, who was a visitor at the Grange. Deputy Story al so spoke a few words in re gards to how to Improve Grange meeting. It being the Three Graces night to serve there was a sort of a Pot Lunch Supper and members were asked to bring a covered dish, etc., for refreshments. After refreshments were served, dart ball was in order and the dif ferent teams got in some practice for this Friday night when they play the teams from Accord. ----------- O ----------- At the Village of Rosendale Election held Tuesday, March 15, there were approximately 231 bal lots cast for a trustee. Harry C. Baxter won by a good majority. He received 143 votes while his opponent Charles Els- worth, received 82 votes. There were 6 void ballots. When interviewed by one of the News staff Mr. Baxter stated there were a few improvement items that he would like to have done, that is, with the help of the Board First. The lowering of the fire rate by the Fire Underwriters. He stated that there was no rea son why this couldn't be done, be ing that Rosendale now had an up t0 very high pressure. Second: That of snow removal on Main street, when necessary without the raising of taxes which he is sure can be done. (Mr. Baxter refers to last win ter when the ski jump was being held. Had the snow been removed Special Notice • to Apple Blossom Committees AH the committees appointed by the different organizations of the Town of Rosendale are asked to attend a special meeting at Fireman ’ s Hall, Rosendale, Thurs day, March 25, at 7:30 P. M. There was a birthday cake which was a credit to the Baker's Art. It was very beautiful. Third: To try and stop the cars from racing through Main street. We thing this ist a good idea. Mr. Baxter also stated that he wished to thank all those who had confidence in him and elected him to the office of trustee and he would fulfill the .office .of trustee to the best of his ability. FRANK CONNELL IN HOSPITAL Celebrates 71st Birthday Mr. William Meier was tender ed a sort of a surprise party Sun day night when his friends gather ed at his home on Main street to wish him a happy birthday. Among those present were: Mr. and Mrs. Robert Zaengle, Mr. and Mrs. Leon Hill, Mr. and Mrs. John Ollry also Mr. Murphy and Mrs Mary Murphy of N^W York. Refreshments were served by Mrs. Meier and at the' close of tire party all present thanking the host an dhostess for the fine evening of entertainment. f ----------- O ------- r - CREEH LOCKS P.*T. St. Peter ’ * Men ’ * Club Elect* Officers The St. Peter ’ s Men ’ s Club held their regular meeting Thursday night at St. Peter ’ s Hall, Ropen- dale. % After the reading of the minutes and regular routine work was through, ; Nick Lippert, sports chairman, addressed the meeting and told of his efforts to arrange games of dart ball with the Ros endale Grange; also that a report on the Shufltleboard Tournament-as progressed to date will be forth coming. Mr. Lippert Also advised he' would try to procure Dart Ball rules. Mr. Connell reported that he had finished two more tables, mak ing four in all, and that they had been donated to St. Peter ’ s Church. At this time new officers were • elected for the coming year as follows : William Delaney, Presi dent; Vice-president, - William Fleming; Rec. Sec., John Winters; Fin. Sec., J. J. Mooney; Treasurer, Leo Yonnett; Rev. W McTymald as. SpisttuakTHrector: At the close of the meeting those who volunteered to clean and arrange the decorating of St. Pet er ’ s Hall for the supper were Frank Duffy, John Connell, Jr.. Francis Connell, Leo Yonnett, Thomas Farrel, Sr., Thomas Far rell, Jr., Thomas Graham, George Duffy. Meeting adjourned. Prank Connell of James Street was token sick suddenly on Tuesday and after submitting to' an examination it wan discovered that he had an acute appendicitis condition and was im mediately rushed to the Benedictine Hospital in Kingston, where he sub mitted to an operation. ^ The latest report is to the effect that the operation was successful and tile patient Is doing nicely When this paper went to press. — “ / The United Parish Societies of St. Peter ’ s Church, Rosendale, held their annual supper and dance last night at St. Peter ’ s Hall, Ros endale. The affair was a social success and most undoubtedly a financial one as well. The attendance was very large. After the supper there was danc ing, music being furnished by the QottekiU Ginger Snaps. Darrow .of Chicago, who died this past week, was a cousin of Mrs- Violo Swehla of Rosendale. In-an interview with Mrs. Sweh la ,she stated that the late lawyer was a man of fine character and was always upholding the side of the poor and would do all in his power to see that they were treat ed right. Mr. Darrow was a,; country boy, born in Kinsman, Ohio. After leaV- ing school he attended Michigan University for only one year and then began working his' way 1 to the top eventually!,making hiniself one of America ’ s outstanding iaw- yers. Ulster County Fire Meeting The St. Retny Firemen entertalned. the firemen from Ulster County at Spinne ’ s in Port Ewen on Wednesday night. . Three hundred firemen from vari ous sections of the county were pres ent. President Litohrod of EUenvfHe was the presldiing officer. He introduced Mayor Helselman, who in turn intro duced Dr. Taylor from the City Lab oratory,, who spoke on many disease* and what was being done at the lab oratories for the benefit of health. Mr. Coulton, of the Central Hud son out of Kingston, then showed a reel of film taken in the Hudson Val ley, which was very interesting. He raid this film was booked for a month to be shown In all the large stores, such os Macy's, Wlanamakers, ’ etc., and also at many large organiza tions to 'show the people of New York to get them, to spend their vacation* City the beauty of Ulster county and here. ■ Another entertainer was Bln Cros by of Kingston. He sang many songs. Refreshments were served and all present had a fine evening; The next monthly meeting will be held On Tuesday, April 19th, 183*. at High Falls.
