I should like to tell you about it if space permits. But — we shall see. On Friday, the day the “ News ” came out, I was buttonholed by Mr. Rodman Purdy. He said my remark about him was entirely un asked for. He further stated that due to this unnecessary \crack ” I had aroused his personal emnity. I assure you and Mr. Purdy that I had no intentions of belittling his character. I do hereby tender my apology. O. K., Pete ? I hope so. The following day, March 5, I had the privilege and honor of interviewing our Tax Collector. No, not about who paid their, tax es. Chris Raisner was at one time an amateur fighter. In fact, he was one of the best pugs that ever hailed from Bayonne. He embarked on his bombarding career in 1916. By the summer of 1918 he had gained for himself an envied reputation. He was so good that the great World War hero, Sgt. MacDonaldson, offered him a professional option. For reasons he won't disclose, he refused. Since that time he has been in terested although not active in boxing. One night, at the “ Men ’ s Club ” , after he had given an exhibition of bag punching, he saw little Willie Mooney sparring with equal ly small Georgie Duffy. He took a personal interest in the \kid ” and now Willie is taking lessons from Chris. Chris says, “ He ’ s the best little boxer I ’ ve seen in a long time. ” He further added, “ Wait ’ ll you see him in about six months. ” This reporter only hopes our fu ture “ lightweight king ” is one-half as good as Chris was. BASKETBALL NEWS Well, well and well. Rosendale has been captvated by a winning streak as was proven last night. Using last week ’ s tickets, if they had them, the fans saw three hard fast, clean games. The girls trounced their opponents to the tune of 8-3. (What ’ s the matter, girls? Slipping? i They got three whole points.) Then came the preliminary game. Fast? And how! Every mo ment of the game was packed with thrills. As early as the first quart er, our pugnacious right guard, John Duffy, robustly tried to take on two West Hurley men. The man from the mountains, Willie Della Rovere, equalized the sides and made them stop before they be gan — Good for you little man. The second, third and fourth quarters were similarly as fast as the first. Maybe there was revenge in the fire laddies ’ hearts, for West Hurley had previously beat en them by two points, or maybe it was a good, hard fight. At any rate they subdued West Hurley 32-30. It was the fastest game of the season and anybody who missed it really missed some thing. Bashful right forward, Connell asked me to leave him out of my column this week. Johnny, when a man makes twelve points, he de serves a little recognition. Abe Goldwasser, our roving guard, scored eight points. Nice going, Abe. When these two above mention ed lads quit making news, we ’ ll quit printing it. , Incidentally in the Junior game, the West Hurley manager, I failed to get his name, threatened to pull his men off the floor. He claimed Johnny Duffy was tackling. A crude way to express it, but ef fective. Our Duffy tackling! Im possible! Of course not. The feature game with Stone Ridge was as good as the dne pre ceding it. The “ big guns ” for Stone Ridge were the Neff brothers and Chappie Cooper. They scored twen ty-two of the Grangers ’ thirty- two points. : On the Rosendale squad no one was sensational. Good old team work was predominant. The blaze battlers played the best game ev er. Feeling as though they would make a one hundred percent vic tory night for us, they beat the invaders something like 35-32. The players had to use an over time period so you can see it was no push-over. All in all It was a gala night. Regan was kept busy dealing out decisions. I got plenty of hot news. The players were In top-notch con dition and proved it before a ca pacity house. I learned from Manager Quinn that there will be three games played next week. Every bit as good as the previous ones we hope. On Saturday, March 12, the Sec ond Team Reserves meet Rifton. Kerhonkson will try their luck against the Second Team and the Big Team will try and clip the White Eagle ’ s wings. > . — — ■■ O-i — — L. ' BASE BALL Manager J. J. Mooney is sending out first call for all applicants who wish to try for the Rosendale Baseball Team. I only hope It is as good as the Basketball Team. See you next week — I hope. ----------- O ----------- AROUND TOWN Mr. Reinhard Renk has return ed from the hospital and Is now able to get about on crutches.
