Proudly serving all of Wayne County in Print & Online at waynetimes.com May 15, 2011 Volume 23, #39 Driver c rashes through front window of ExpressM art Williamson Store Driver charged with DWI^ Bystander gets pepper sprayed after reportedly interfering The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office responded to a report of a vehicle driving through the front door and window of the ExpressMart Convenience store at 4089 Route 104 in the Town of Williamson about 2:44 a.m. on Friday (5/13). The crash caused considerable damage to the front of the store and merchandise inside. Several customers and employees were inside at the time of the incident. No one inside was injured. The driver, Douglas W. Kennedy, age 59, of 4055 Stanford Street in William son told police he hit the accelerator by mistake after starting his vehicle while in a parking spot in front of the store. Upon investigation, Kennedy was charged by Wayne County Sheriff’s Deputy Calc Flora with DWI, Aggravated Unlicensed Operation of a Motor Vehicle in the 1st Degree, Reckless Driving, Unsafe Start, Refusal to Submit to a Breath Screening Test and Criminal Mischief in the 4th de gree. He was arraigned and remanded to jail on $5000 cash/$10,000 bond Williamson Assistant Fire Chief Craig Bouwens responded to the scene and was evaluating the situation, when a by stander approached and began interfering with Bouwens’ assessment. When Sher iff’s Deputy Joe Ayotte approached the bystander, he began yelling and swear ing, began resisting and was eventually pepper sprayed. The bystander, Joseph G. Caraballo, age 27, of Greenview Fane in Williamson was subdued and charged with Disorderly Conduct and Resisting Arrest. He was arraigned by Williamson Justice Charles Mouses and remanded to jail on $250 cash/$500 bond.
