Serving - Macedon - Gananda - Walworth - Palmyra - Marion - Ontario - Williamson Mary Ellen Cook, owner of \Mary Ellen's Main Street Cafe\ in Marion pins her success on family and friends and said her personal guarantee will never allow a customer to leave unhappy. Her husband, Tom, leaves his state therapist job and pitches in washing dishes and mops. Mary Ellen admits she has fired the complaining spouse 3 times already! A Touch Of \Park Avenue\ In New Marion Restaurant Marion resident Mary Ellen Cook had been dreaping of owning and running her own restaurant for almost 20 years. She garnered valuable experience working with the Perkin's p restaurant chain for 16 years and had been actively looking for just the right place to fulfill her wishes. \I looked for years. after a while I thought it just wasn't going to happen,\ she stated. While hunting a waitress job she walked into an old Main Street Marion restaurant that served grilled foods and a greasy spoon nature for years. \When I first walked in here I visioned what it could look like,\ she remembered. After the previous owner went out, she began formulating her plans. She thought the Town of Marion deserved better and would support a restaurant with class, decor and, most of all, good food. Mary Ellen, with the help of her family, turned the once drab sur- roundings into a showplace. Park bench- es and planters will mark the front of the Marion landmark \Mary Ellen's Main Street Cafe.\ The inside has been totally redone with a \feel like home\ atmos- phere. The restaurant is divided in two with a section for smokers and non-smokers. Beautiful antiques and knick-knacks adorn the walls comprised of a wood and deep rustic green. Next door, a walk-up soft and hard ice cream window has been added for the summer Main Street walk- ers. The kitchen and preparation area has been enlarged and a char-broil grill has been added. \It is great food and the service is wonderful,\ commented customer Evelyn Bailey. Known for their varied menu from the simple fare to salads, steaks and prime rib, a big draw has to be the home- made desserts awaiting the dining public. Specials, including a Friday fish fry have lines already waiting. Serving breakfasts, lunches and din- ners, Mary Ellen's Main Street Cafe promises a touch of \Park Avenue\ in downtown Marion. Air-conditioned, guaranteed satisfaction awaits. Hours are Sun. 7a.m. -9 p.m., Mon.-Thurs. 6 a.m.-8 p.m. and Friday and Saturday from 6a.m. till 9 p.m. Ontario Board Member Gail Adair Calls It Quits For the past 7 112 years, no one could talk about the Ontario Town Board with- out the name of Gail Adair coming up. The outspoken board member 20 year resident cut her political teeth on the \Collider\ issue of the 1980's. She began attend- ing regular board meet- ings and work sessions and eventually decided that it was time to Gail Adair get directly involved to get things done. Gail saw a promising future in Ontario and knew that development along the Route 104 corridor through Ontario was the key. \ Ginna is going to happen (refer- ring to the closure of the RG&E atomic power generating plant on Lake Road in Ontario and the impact it would have on the Town tax base). We have to be ready for that. It is better to gradually prepare for it than to let it hit you all at once ,\ she admitted. The addition to Town water and sewer lines, the economic committees at the Town and Chamber of Commerce levels has been a primary concern. Now, Gail admits it is time to step down. Her plans called for not running for're-election this Fall. Her plans were expedited with a string .of unfortunate deaths and sicknesses in and around her family since last November. On Friday she handed in a brief resig- nation letter to Ontario Town Supervisor Roy Herrmann. \He asked me to think about it over the weekend.\ On Monday she informed Roy of her firm determina- tion to spend more time with family and friends. The' lifelong Republican said she is a firm believer in term limits. \It is too easy to go down the same path. You develop a STORY CONTINUED ON PAGE 3...
