Serving - Macedon - Gananda - Walworth - Palmyra - Marion - Ontario - Williamson Gananda's Pride Set To Music, As New Performance Center Is Dedicated , Rochester Philharmonic .- & Pops Conductor Jeff Tyzik perform Gananda residents, school staff and officials, and many special guests were on hand Saturday, January 25th as the district dedicated its - new Performance Center, a 500 seat auditorium at the Gananda MiddleMgh School. Gananda's Class of 1994 were applauded for being instrumental in rally- ing support for an auditorium and provid- ing the incentive to see the dream through. t haigmd music performances were given during the three-hour event by: Cand Town Chorale, directed by Richard Crooks; the Gananda High School Band, under the direction of Mar- vey Possemato, the Gananda High School Chorus, directed by Lorinda Dingman. The day's highlight was a b performance by the Rochester Philharmo- nic Orchestra, under the direction of Bops conductor, Jeff Tyzik. The packed house enjoyed a diverse program of classical, contemporary, jazz and spiritual music. The audience delighted to the music, the acoustics and the uniqueness of the experience. Mike Pia t t , president of the Ganmda Board of Education, absent due to a com- mitment to a conference of the Four Cody School Boards association, had a statement read by Middle/High School Principal Ken Dehn. Through his state- ment, Piatt and the board of education officially announced that the dedication of the new auditorium would include its christening as the \Pedersen Performance Center\ in honor of Superintendent Dr. Larry Pedersen's many years of serv- ice and dedication to the district. Awarded to the RPO concert, plaques honoring Thomas Farrell and Stuart Moot, were displayed and dedi- cated on the Wall of Fame, just outside the Performance Center doors. These two men were honored for their perseverance to see the dream of a planned community, known as Gananda, come to fruition. Welch Appo.i:nted To Palmyra Town Board Position With Robert Grier resigning his seat on the Palmyra Town Board, to accept the position of Code Enforcement Officer, an opening was created. With eight residents throwing their hat in the ring for the appointment, lifelong resi- dent, James Welch was nominated and accepted at last week's town board meet- ing. Jim and his wife, Renee', live on Maple Avenue in the Town of Palrnyra He has three sons and one stepson, Ryan, age 14; Jason, age 11; Nicholas, age 2 and Dean, age 8. Jim has served as a member of the Town Zoning Board for 1-112 years and as a member of the Town Planning Board, until he resigned to take this new posi- tion. He runs his family's 17-year old busi- ness, Mickey's Restaurant on Vienna Street, where he became a full owner over the last 4 years. Jim noted that he holds many fundraising events at the Restaurant which allows him to contribute to local community establishments, such as the Palmyra Community Center. As a reason for seeking the Town Board position, Jim said that he wanted James Welch to become even more involved in town government. He feels that the Town of Palmyra is very progressive in its goals on development and water throughout the town, and would like to help further that progressiveness. Following the announcement that the Perjbmnce Center would bear his me, Gd Superintendent of Schools, Dr. Larry Pedersen, reacts with surprise and emotion. - -- Chamber Hosts Annual Show In Williamson 'Everything you need - Right her; in Wayne County,\ is the theme of the Wayne County Home and Business Show '97. The show will take place on 'March 2nd from 11 am until 5 p.m. at the Wil- liamson Central High School on Route 21 South. One exciting change to the show this year is that admission will be fiee. Businesses are encouraged to get their applications in quickly to participate in this highly successful show. Applications are available at Breens'IBells and Joseph Neri Chevrolet in Williamson or by call- ing chairperson Juli Bixby at 589- 8352.
