GA,NANDA TIMES - PAGE 6 Seventy Five Attend Gananda Over 75 enthusiastic Gananda resi- dents surfaced for a neighborhood meeting at the Blue Heron Hills Country Club, Tuesday night (August 9th). The local crowd listened as ~ananda .Times editor'Ron Holdraker called for an all- out effort for increased voter registration in both Walworth and Macedon. Frank Guelli, restaurant manager, graciously extended a meeting room in his facility for-the gathering. Residents expressed an overwhelm- 3 ing interest in volunteering their time to committees, running for town board positions, petitioning for a possible YMCA for the area, attending political caucuses and reinstating the Gananda Neighborhood association as an in- formal (no dues) but powerful voice for the community. As the initial thrust of the meeting was voter registration, residents were Neighborhood , < Meeting encouraged to check their party enroll- - ment and registration. They were asked -to help themselves to registration pack- ets for change of address, change of party affiliation, absentee b,allots, and first time registrations. Some people were actually surprised to learn how they had registered. \I just couldn't remember whether I was a Republican or,an Independent,\ said one long time resident, who had neglected to vote in the last election. Many attended the community meeting simply out of curiousity, bring- ing their children with them. (one ador- able pajama-clad baby stole the lime- light several iimes.) Some spoke out, some asked questions, some just drank it all in. There were many attendees who had lived in Gananda less than 6 months, -and alre.ady their concern and dedication to the community was evident. Allyn Moore of 3393 Orchid Crescent had moved in just 6 days prior to the meeting. She not only signed up for several committees, but picked up voter registra- tion forms for herself and her husband, Paul. \The mood of the community has changed over the years. The time seems to be right fdr the re-establishment of a neighborhood association,\ Holdraker said. By way of explanation, some resi- dents felt they were too caught up in their new lives and young children to get overly involved with the previous as- sociation. \When the Association was first formed, many of us had only been here for a few years,\ explained Noeleen Griffin-of Wakerobin Cour-t. \Now that we have been here for 9 or 10 years, we have a vested interest and we want to help to make things happen,\ she added. New Changes/Ownership at Gananda Day Care Center August-1, 1989 was a \banner day\ at the Gananda Day Care Center. On that day, Kathy and Dave Hillestad, owners of ~anners Day Care Center in Brighton, officially took possession of the Gananda facility from Home Leasing Corporation. Changes became evident immedi- ately with the installation of air condi- tioning, carpeting and plans for new drapes. In addition, new toys and equip- ment were added. \We want the best child care facility possible,\ stressed Dave Hillestad. \We plan to emphasize customer service and plan to bend over backwards to please the parents and children,\ he added. \We want the staff to stay in place and join with us in developing the Gananda Day Care team,\ remarked Kathy. The Hillestads intend to develop better hourly wages and benefits for all the employees. \Good people are your most important asset.\ i(athy said.. The new changes being imple- mented will have no effect on the present - structure, rather Kathy and Dave intend to increase the present enrollment rate by more agressive marketing of their ; facility. I \We analyzed the profit/ loss state- ments from the past several years at the David & Kathy Hillestad Gananda Day Care Center, and from a business viewpoint, feel a strong commit- ment to turn the facility around,\ said Dave. Parent input is strongly encouraged at all levels of the facility's operations. \.We want to make ourselves completely responsive to both the -parents' and children's needs,\ commented Kathy. A parent hand-book will be available at the Gala Open House at the facility, planned for Thursday night, ~ugust\ 17th from 7:OO-9:00 pm. All current and perspective parents are encouraged to come and view the facility and meet with Kathy and Dave and their fine staff. \l Terri Nichols of Macedon Promoted at Mobil Terri Nichols of 3184 ~anandai~ua Road has just been promoted in the Products Design Department of Mobil Chemical Company in Macedon.
