Fish Kill (continued from page 1) if the \triploid grass carp\ was an ef- fective tool for this purpose,\ he added. According to Joe Hahn of Oak Hill Country Club, the fish were an extremely ' effective tool and much more preferable to using poison for pond weed control. Woltman figures that it will be \some time\ before the triploid grass carp finds its way into New York State parks. \A lot of cautious study into the number of allowable triploid grass carp, versus the size of the pond, must be done. \They are not God's gift to the weed world,\ said Woltman. \These fish have a distinct eating pattern. There'are a lot of weeds, such as water lilies that the fish simply won't eat. There are many situations where they shouldn't be used at all,\ he added. Woltman also noted that the triploid variety of grass carp is the only variety being considered for New York State. \An increase in algae is one of the results of the introduction of this fish, so the water clarity was clouded,\ said Woltman. \Because you solve one problem, doesn't mean you don't create another,\ he said. Due to the size of Windward Lake, it was determined that the use of poison was the only to eliminate the grass carp there and unfortunately all other fish along with it from the water. The poison was said to be completely harmless to the birds, turtles, snakes and humans. Hopefully the beautiful blue heron and other birds will once again ,find the meals and enjoyment of the Lake hos- pitable to their needs. A fish restocking program wilr be initiated in October. It ,will be two to three years before the fishermen will again pull \trophies\ from the shores of . . Windward Lake. . . .. In January, they started HEAVENLY CARPET CLEANING BY CHEM- DRY.\ Our first goal is complete customer satisfaction,\ said Laurie. \The cleaning system uses a carbonated solution that eliminates excess amounts of water, therefore our customers'carpets are dry in about an hour, not in days as with conventional methods. The process allows rugs to stay cleaner longer, because it does not leave behind dirt attracting resideues,\ she added. Terry, the company salesperson, 'said \We stand behind our product and service. Our system penetrates deeper kool-aid, wine, paint, oil, rust, perma- nent marker, pet stains and odors. Even the dreaded red stains can be handled,\ Terry added. Besides the Welkers, the company employs two other local residents, Andrew Johnston of Penfield Road in Walworth and Jim Pierce who resides in Macedon on Route 350. The local company does both resi- dential and commercial jobs, including local restaurants and industries. \All our cleaning products are totally pH balanced and safe for both toddlers and pets,\ Terry said.
