Bulls Take W.& J.,26-2 With Potent Aerial Offense To the delight of alm o st 3000<^ chilled t^ns, the Buffalo Bills end ed a two gam e losing streak and thum p e d the W a shington and Jef ferson P residents to the tune of 26 to 2, last Saturday afternoon in Civic Stadium . Tracy^ La Tpna, form er third string quarterback for U. B., left h is usual spot, m anning the bench teiephone and led the team to its fourth win, by passing to “Big Ed\ Gicewlcz for three touchdowns. Ju les L icata got the spirit too and tossed a scoring pass in the last period to Carl M arkey. W & J scored a safety when Joe Dlange, alert U. B. guard, fell on Mike Gu- ercio’s tum b le in the end zone. It took ti e Bulls ju s t five m in utes to-drive to their initial tally a f t e r receiving the kickoff. W ith L icata directing the T-attack, the Blue and W h ite w e n t 73 yards in 11 plays with A1 Zwolinski blast ing through the line and Mike Gu- ercio skirting the ends. The P residents took the ensuing kickoff and drove to the U. B. 23 w h e re the Buffalonians stiffened and held for downs. B. quarterback who is head coach of the 1949 freshm a n football eleven, turned in th e m ost am azing m iracle of the year when his Inspired team travelled down to Ithaca and played the Big Red of Cornell to a standstill, losing by only one touchdown. The Cornell frosh had previously walloped Colgate’s yearlings 54-6 a n d th e highly touted Syracuse outfit 17-14. Incidentally Colgate beat the Canislus frosh 26-6. Vic Manz, a professional law y er as well as a great coach, has done great things w ith his Baby Bulls in his very first year as coach. W ith a schedule th a t reads like a football W h o ’s Who, th e mighj/y Manz, plus his fine assistants, Felix Szlego and H a rry W ilhelm, has put on an im p ressive display of spirit and determ ination In spite of a bad start. Today’s gam e w ith N iagara is a fitting clim ax to a season of few victories but of g r e a t playing by th e class of '53 in the force of g r e a ter odds. M a tty Sydiowski, fine sophom o re end who had played every gam e Including the Colgate opener is out for the season. M atty was hit in the head during the St. Law rence gam e and doctor’s diagnosed his in jury as a bad brain bruise. M a tty’s playing was always inspiring and his spirit was never questioned. W e join the students and his friends in w ishing him a com p lete recovery. The C h e erleaders certainly w ere inspired last week tor the Bulls’ final (?) home game. B. 14 to end one W & J th r e a t while the entire Buffalo forw ard wall rose up on another occasion to stall a second drive after it had reached the U. B. 11. Guercio then fumbled a pitch out which fell into the end zone but Joe Diange outsped the W & J linem an. F rank Nappo, carrying the ball for the first tim e turned right end and dashed 51 yards behind nice blocking for a first down. T h en Licata tossed to glue fingered end (Jarl Markey, who dashed for a score. Tony Panzica, a IT. B. de fensive back, intercepted a pass with three m inutes left.
