Geneseo Lamron The LAMRON Pro Football Poll swings into its last tw0 veeks, with \Gadabout Gary\ Kromer clinging to a narrow lead, \Caledonia Curt\ Smith staging a late-season surge, and G e o r g e \ Petrotta still on the outside looking in. With 1 1 weeks down and on I y 26 games to go, Kromer, a 1 0 0 -t o - 1 longshot, now leads Smith by three games, and so the current odds-on-favorite last week called fo r concession. \I've said it before, and nere goes again. Smith is a loser,\ Kromer snorted, \he can't win, and he's just prolonging his o w n agony by not throwing in the towel. So right here and now, I call for that bum's concession.\ Smith, the 1971 title-holder and defending champion refused to concede, and then replied: \ICromer knows full well that I'm just setting him up for a last-minute kill. Kromer The State Blue Knight wrestling team, with one big another, dropped its last three matches of the 1972 semester of the season and faces 1973 with some soul searching and a lot of thinking about keeping the shoulders o f f the mats. The Knights, after taking a commanding 19-3 lead with some exceptional wrestling in th e c l a s s e s Wednesday at the University of Rochester, fell apart in the upper classes and lost the match, Five pins ended the Kng ith s' hope for their first win of the season. They are now 0-4. On the Knights travelled to Oswego to take on the Lakers and the fine team a triangular meet and had the cla s s problems. They lost to Oswego 32-1 7 and were edged by Ithaca College, 26-17. Wednesday, Al Solomon at 118 and Larry Tandoi at 134 •bs. c o n t r i b u t e d th e o n l y six-point team matches for the Knights with Solomo'n racking UP bis third straight forfeit to go 4-0and Tandoi taking his match by default after giving his man a trashing. Tandoii, after falling behind in the first period, cahrged on and ended the night with a 15-5 decision over Phil Shade. Then the roof fell in as Bob 158, Palmatier at 167, Tom Murphy at 177, Willie James at 190 and B e r t were all turned to the ceiling for a total loss of 30 team points. In the double dual match in Oswego, the lower weight classes were once more the main source of the team scoring. Coach Rose said that he was satisfied with his team's showing but projected that if the men in the upper weight classes had not been p i n n e d , Geneseo could have pulled o ff an upset. The results of the match, run in three rounds of six minutes matches, showed Solomon as the only Geneseo double winner and he got out of Oswego easily— with two wins by forfeit as neither Oswego nor Ithaca put a 118 lb. man on the mats. Five other Knight grapplers came home with single wins 134 lb. Daymond Clark who looked good in his Page Eleven Synchro Swimming by Curt Smith Coached by veteran skipper, Shirley Toler, and lead by team captains Smiley Bany and Margo Kramer, the Geneseo Aquanauts this week wind up a fast-paced Fall semester. ago October 27-29, the Aquanauts traveled th e State Thruway to Albany, site of the 1972 Assoc, of Synchronized Colleges and Universities Conference. T e n G e n e s e o 's only synchronized swimming team performed in a Nov. 9 Buffalo State workshop featuring the Tonawanda Aquettes, one of tne synchronized squads. T h e traveled to the University of Vermont, where Geneseo placed eighth out of 14 E a s t e r n Synchronized Swim Stunt Championships. In a total 47 Beginning Level swimmers, the Knights' Mary Breslin finished fourth, and ended up as the top Geneseo perfomer. W e ston and Diana Abdoo placed 20th and 22nd, Corrine I grabbed off the 23rd and 26th slots. In the larger Intermediate com p e tition, Geneseo's Marge Herring, Sally Krizek, and Bany snared the 8-10 positions, while Pat Rose finished 15 out of 52 swimmers. Following the meet, the 1973 Cham p tionships were awarded to Geneseo and its n ew field house, directly connected to the present pool by the Causeway. Over the next three months, ti re Aquanauts be going systematic routines, preparing for the March 17 Championships at the U. of Mew Hampshire. Their 1973 Geneseo debut also occur in March,, when th e Aquanauts present their annual waier show at the ol' Catbird Seat in the Schraeder Pool area. 10-1 shellacking of Oswego's McDonald. Larry Tandoi, who contested the other 134 lb. match, wrestled very well and sunk Blank o f Ithaca, 5-4. Eric Falkman, wrestling in his first matches. o f the season, p u l l e d the heavyweight class around the Oswego mats, forcing Shraer of Oswego to default and holding Ithaca's big Swett to a 1-1 draw. Shraer separated his shoulder after Falkman came up w i t h a good takedown and caused him to land on the shoulder joint.
