They will divide into groups and will leave the Center at 6:30 p, m. to go around town singing eainls for the townspeople. Appointment Calendars Sold at Student Co-Op An appointment c a le n d a r featur ing all of the 33 units of the State > University of New York is now on sale in the Student Co-Op. Only 50 copies of the calendar have been ordered by Mrs. Frances Meekin, store m anager. They sell for $1.00 a copy, which means 90c to students who receive the usual Co-Op 10%, discount. Mrs. Meekin urges students to get their copies soon because the supply is absolut ely limited to the 50 calendars. Each State University college is i represented in the calendar by a | full-page picture. Geneseo’s picture, | taken by Mr. Dudley Miller, audio- 1 visual director, appears opposite j the page for the f ir s t week in Feb- | ruary. The calendar covers the ■ year 1953. Geneseo to Welcome Debaters on Saturday Ten colleges will participate in Geneseo’s Third Annual Debate tournam ent to he heid here on Sat urday, Dec. 6 commencing p rompt ly at 10:30 a. m. Using the national debate topic, Resolved: The Congress of the United States should enact a com pulsory F a ir Employment Prac tice Law, each school will partici pate in three rounds of debating. Following the morning round, there will be a break for lunch. The second round will begin a t 1 p. m. followed by an extemporaneous contest at 2 p. m. The final debate will get under way at 4 p. m. Representing Genesi-o will be M arilyn Nohle and Hubert Gerts- m a n on the affirm ative and Doro th y Little and Margelia Voorhees on the negative. They will compete w ith debaters from St. Bonaven- ture, U n iversity of Rochester, N ia gara, Canisus, Houghton, Oswego, Cortland, Fredonia, and LeMoyne, This event will be clim ated by a buffet supper in the cafeteria. Handel's ‘Messiah’ Will Be Sung Dec. 7 Handel’s “M essiah” will be sung by a chorus of 120 voices 4:30 p. m. on ’Sunday, Dec. 7 in the high school auditorium . This chorus, consisting of college faculty and students as well as townspeople, will be directed by Mr. Theodore Hollenbeck, director of the Rochester Oratorio society. Kenneth Wilson, a student of coirv- position a t E a s tm a n School of Music, will be the accompanist. Soloists will be soporano, Doreen Hamilton, Avon; alto, M argaret ISage, Rochester; tenor, Charles House, Avon; and bass, R ichard Knickerbocker, a graduate of P o ts dam. Arethusa Events Begin. Christmas Seal Sale On Campus Dec, 8-LO1 Christm as Seals will be distrib uted in the student mailboxes the week of Dec. 8 , honoring the 47th birthday of the Christmas Seal Sale, occording to R achel Brody, college seal sale chairman. The college seal sale campaign is being sponsored by the ICEU, Miss Gladys Rhodes, adviser. “The 47th birthday of the Christ mas iSeal Sale finds us well along the road to victory -over tubercu losis,” Dr. Loren S. \Woolston p resi dent of the local Tuberculosis Association, said. “ Since 1907, too disease has been forced down from first to sixth pl'ace am o n g causes of death in the U n ited'States.” Among the services provided hy the dollars from this sale are the free chest X-rays which are givem each spring here at the college. GSTC Debaters Are Western NY Champs A silver loving cup was presented to the Geneseo debaters when they were chosen W estern New York Forensic League champions at N iagara University on Nov. 22. Winning five out of six debates, the representatives earned this t i tle in competition w ith University of Rochester, Niagara, Canisus, Houghton, and Fredonia. Debating the affirmative were Marilyn Nohle and .Glenn Ll'oyd; on the negative were Katy Dunn and Shirley Essa, Ira Ginsberg was the coach for this debate. A plaque was also awarded to the winners and this becomes a perm anent possession of the wanning school. The cup may be retained permanently after a school wins three tournaments in succession. Continued on Page 5, Col. 5 ‘Holy Night’ to Climax Christmas Festivities “Holy Night,” the fourth play in th e Christmas cycle, will be pre sented Thursday, Dec. 18 a t 8:45 p. m. at the Town Hall. “Holy N ight” is a Christmas play by M artinez Sierra, translated into English from the original 'Spanish by Philip Hereford. It is th e last play in the cycle and was added when Geneseo became a four year college. Members of Cothurnus and stu dents working toward membership are in. charge of the production of the play. The story of “Holy Night” deals w ith the events of one Christmas Eve in Spain long ago, when a statue of the Virgin Mother in the town cathedral came to life and w ent out into the countryside to bring Christ to the people who would not come to Him. Tickets for the Christm as Dinner to be held Dec. 18 will be on sale in the College Center Dec. 15 and 16. Those students who m u st eat a t a special time because of pag eant responsibilities m a y purchase their tickets Dec. 12 in Mr. Hills’ office. Tickets are $1 or a m eal ticket. Because of the limited seating facilities, students with meal' tick ets m u st pick up a special ticket indicating the time they wish to eat. All students and faculty mem bers are requested to wear inter national costumes to the dinner and the pageant afterwards. Dinner to Be in Shifts The dinner will be .given in two shifts, 5 to 7 p. m. Punch will be served in the lounge between 4:30 and 8 p. an. The dinner menu is as follows: Roast turkey and dressing Tossed salad, Christm as relishes Mashed potatoes, Buttered peas Rolls B u tter Ice Cream tarts Coffee Tea Milk There are about 700 people on Vesper Service Featured Dec. 14 V esper services will be held Sun day, Dec. 14 at 7 :30 p. m. in the high school auditorium. General chairm an of the program is An n a b e ls Gentile. The guest harpist will be Miss Lois Kreig, who played for last yeai’’s vespers. The prelude to the program w ill be a piano selection by Peggy Strite and Donwnica Evangelista. The Mixed Chorus will then sing “Today There Is Ringing” by Christianson and “Sleep Little Drive” an old Alsatian Noel. Next on the program is “Shepherd’s Story” by Dickenson. Domendca Evangelista will accompany on the piano. The audience will then sing “Oh Come All Ye Faithful”. Following this the Carol Choristers will pre sent “Christmas Nightingale” by German and Shaw, Shuhert’s “Ave M aria” and “Hodie Christus Natus E s t.” The audience will join in w ith “Oh Little Town of Bethle hem.” Following there will be a Christ mas reading, after which the Carol Choristers will present the \Cere mony of the Carols,” accompanied by Miss Krieg. The audience will then sing “The First Noel.” The Mixed Chorus will offer sel ections from H andel’s “Messiah” Peggy Strite and Domenica Evang elista will render a piano selection as a. postlude to the program . The Board of M anagers of the 'College Center and the A rt Club are sponsoring a Christmas decorating party in the Center between 7 p. tn. and 9 p. m. Dec. 12. Volunteers Assist To m ake the C h ristm a s dinner a success, students, faculty and various campus organizations have volunteered to assist w ith the pro gram . The Phi Sigs have charge of the punch, bowl in the lounge, the Board of M anagers and the A r t Club are organizing decorations, the Services Committee of the College Center will sell' tickets, Dr. Greene’s conservation class will g a th e r trees and greens, and m a n y other organizations plus individ ual students and faculty members are helping.
