Wow....the Chamber has 4 events planned over the next two months! Running events that encompass the entire community is no easy feat. The preparation requires a tremendous amount of time, planning and man- power. The chamber of commerce members donate the time to get these jobs done.....while operating their businesses....all for the good of our com- munities. As the buzz around town grows about the Family Fun Festival that the Chamber will be hosting April 11-13, I need to thank, in advance, a few people. People that never like the recognition, but deserve it just the same! Seth Needelman, of The Fish Store and chamber board member and Tom Reid, owner of AGC Printing and the informative Gazette and also a board member. As the Chamber looked forward to promote the 160 plus mem- bers of the organization, we knew we needed money to do so. 99% of the events run by the chamber forward all the proceeds to other greater needs. A perfect example of this is the St. Judes Car Show/ Craft Fair. It is a cause like this that truly deserves every penny it can get, and thanks to Skip Pope of Packey Electronics for making it happen. So it was the brainstorming of these two that brought the Festival to us. As you walk around at the Family Fun Festival remember all the work that went into bringing the ferris wheel, the bumper cars and midway to town. Of course you won’t be able to miss the freworks on Friday night. Next is our wonderful Easter Egg Hunt at Corey Beach. Don’t miss out, the Saturday before Easter, as hundreds of children scurrying around looking for the golden eggs, and after a visit by the Easter Bunny....deliv- ered by our wonderful Blue Point FD. Thank you Laura Rogacki, Little Angels Speech Therapy, and Chamber Board member for bringing delight to all.....even the big kids in town! The last two events, the 8th Senior Resident Dinner, and the Senior Resident Expo/Seminar are simply what this community is about. This is the event that I have had the honor of running for the last 8 years, as a school board member, and now with my hard working committee and fellow chamber board members Michelle Kelly, Ms Michelle’s Urban Gourmet, and Laura Rogacki, Little Angels Speech Therapy. The dinner is an incredible opportunity for our senior residence to enjoy great music, all performances by our wonderful student body, and great food! We also pride ourselves on hosting the largest sit down dinner and the largest number of residence reading the Gazette at the same time.....watch out Guinness Book of World Records! The Expo/Seminar is something you don’t want to miss...young and old.....great information and sponsors coming forward to keep our community informed. More info at April dinner and in the May Gazette! I hope after reading about the four upcoming events and one past event you see a pattern. Three of the events are being hosted at the HS and one at Blue Point Elementary School. Dr Butera, the School Board and staff, work hand and hand with the Chamber to make these community events come to life. Thank you all.. Behind the scenes of alot of these events are a most important and essential group, for without them it wouldn’t be possible. That’s men and woman in the school custodial and maintenance/grounds units. An enor- mous Chamber thank you to all of them!! Not only have these wonderful units made our events possible by setting up for each of them, but they also- volunteered their time for the Festival. The unit, led by Jason Wagner and George Edwards, participated in the recent Making Strides against Breast Cancer Walk at Jones Beach and raised $300 for that worthy cause. I learn wonderful new things everyday! Looking forward to see everyone at the Festival, Egg Hunt, Expo/Semi- nar and Senior Residence dinner.....lets celebrate at all these great events our wonderful Communities!!! Remember.....please shop local....we are your friends and neighbors! Kathy Heinlein President Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce President@bayportbluepoint.com
