Thousands of people lined both sides of Montauk Highway dressed in their best St. Patrick’s green to cheer on the 78 different businesses, groups and organizations march by. The weather was chilly, but sunny so there were lots of Irish sweaters and green hats. The parade was lead by Grand Mar- shal, John Weissman of Blue Point. Being the Grand Marshal is a tremendous honor and he said, “I am very proud. Not only proud to be selected as Grand Marshal, but proud to be a member of this community that has been so good to me.” Weissman has lived in Blue Point for 31 years, owns a local business and is a member of Bayport-Blue Point Chamber of Commerce and Blue Point Fire Depart- ment. He has been to every St. Patrick’s Day Parade. The outpouring of congratu- lations from friends and also of people he has never met amazed him. VFW Post 2913 of Patchogue has been a part of this parade for eight years. James Orban of Bayport is the Post’s Commander. Getting ready to take a seat in a jeep for the parade he said, “We really Consider Yourself… Entertained High School Student-Actors Perform ‘Oliver!’ A young orphan boy’s struggle through life unfolded on the stage at Bayport-Blue Point High School this February when a cast of talented student-actors performed the hit musical “Oliver!” The actors and student pit orchestra entertained audiences during their A Great Irish Day Celebration of Science Rolls Out With a Bang! by Daniene Byrne BBP students, parents, teachers and supporters gathered on April 2, for SEED’s First Annual Cel- ebration of Science. This was a chance for everyone, of every age in our district to see, share and learn about the impressive efforts and discoveries of our students. The event featured science research projects by BBP students grades 3-6 alongside displays by high school and middle school science clubs and teams. The community voted for SEED’s “People’s Choice Awards from work of grades 3-6.
